MSNBC Apologizes to Romney Campaign for KKK Comparison

Your Black World reports.

Is this a liberal organization throwing black people under the bus?   MSNBC has apologized to the Mitt Romney Presidential campaign for comparing Romney’s use of the phrase “Keep America American” to the Ku Klux Klan’s rallying cry used over 100 years ago.

“During the 11AM hour on MSNBC, we reported on a blog item that compared a phrase used by the Romney campaign to one used by the KKK in the 1920s,” MSNBC host Chris Matthews said. “It was irresponsible and incendiary of us to do this and showed an appalling lack of judgment. We apologize, we really do, to the Romney campaign.”

Mediaite is reporting that NBC executives were angry over the segment.

“NBC News President Steve Capus addressed this story this morning at an editorial meeting, and stressed the need for accuracy, fairness, and caution before proceeding,” Mediaite reported.

The Rev. Al Sharpton, an employee of MSNBC, agreed with the network’s decision to apologize.

“But as someone who has been a victim of unproven innuendo and half-truths I agree the report was not proper if you could nail down all the facts. This network did the right thing by apologizing,” Sharpton said.

The liberal website, Ameriblog.com, said this:

He’s said it repeatedly for over a year now.  Here is Romney a year ago, using the Klan slogan in a campaign ad.

Romney said it again four days ago.

In an era in which it’s apparently okay for Republicans to accuse President Obama of being a socialist, I guess we now need to ask if Mitt Romney is a Ku Klux Klansman.  Not whether Romney inadvertently is using the KKK’s number one slogan from the 1920s on the stump, no, the Republicans would say, if this were a Democrat, that clearly the candidate was a closet member of the KKK.  So, is Mitt Romney a closet member of the KKK?  Keep in mind, that even Romney is now claiming, between the lines, that President Obama is a socialist.  So why shouldnt’ America be asking if Mitt Romney is a Klansman?

So, the question from the Your Black World staff is straight forward:  Where is there an inaccuracy here?  Either the slogan was used by the KKK or it was not.  MSNBC never really answered that question, and the blogger does seem to have a very good point.  If President Obama were to go around the country repeating a slogan that was used by Karl Marx, would they call him a socialist?  The answer is simple because Obama is already being accused of Socialism by attempting to help uninsured children and asking millionaires to pay slightly more in taxes.

MSNBC punked out on this one.
