For a very long time, some thought it was just a nasty rumor that actor Morgan Freeman was dating his 27-year old step-granddaughter, E’Dena. It has been reported by various media outlets that the two have maintained a 10-year relationship, which says that they started dating when she was just 17-years old.
Yahoo reported back in 2009 that Freeman was planning to marry the woman and that once Freeman’s wife found out about the affair, he then filed for divorce.
“Morgan has led her to believe that he wants to marry her,” says a family insider. Another source told Yahoo, “Becoming Mrs. Morgan Freeman has been E’Dena’s goal.”
The couple, at the time the information was released, said nothing to deny the claims that they were dating, and since that time, rumors have continued to swirl around the status of Freeman’s alleged relationship. Some consider the relationship to be a natural attraction between a woman who appreciates wealth and power, and a man who likes younger women. All throughout history in both the US and around the world, older men have dated and married younger women.
But is this acceptable? Even if Freeman never marries E’Dena, does that make the relationship appropriate? Also, does it matter that she is related to Freeman’s ex-wife? These are questions that we don’t claim to be able to answer, but these are certainly questions that can and should be asked.

It is amazing how people are stepping around this issue, trying to give Morgan an out, when they know that his actions are really disturbing. I guess it’s because he is a great actor, who plays many likable characters. Even the writer reported on the matter in a very careful and non-judgemental way, leaving out many key details. Let’s add a bit more context. This matter was widely reported in the news; it was not just rumors, particulary when Mr. Freeman’s divorce transcripts were released. Morgan raised this young woman from a small child, in the home with him and his ex-wife of about 26 years. The young lady is a product of Morgan’s relationship with a former mate/woman. His then wife agreed to help raise her, and loved and raised her as her own. Morgan and his wife split once she discovered that he’d began sleeping with his step-daughter in their home without her knowledge. She also discovered a number of other affairs they he’d been having with women throughout their marriage and was fed up. I believe that Mr. Freeman also has children or a child with this young woman, even though he has not married her. She is reported to have given her virginity to him. Freeman is not only a big star, but he is also the only father that this girl has known. Now, let’s all be real. I love Mr. Freeman’s work as well, but he is not God, he is a human being, and obviously has flaws like other humans. Really? Come on now people. The issue is not whether we have more serious things to think about (which is odd that someone would say that while taking the time to respond, even with that statement), or that Koreans have worse practices. The story prompt asked readers to log in with their opinions. I think that here we go again as a community, devaluing the worth of African American girls, and refusing to protect them. We really need to figure out what that is really all about. Our girls are out there dying on the d—- vine. Not less for the boys, but more for the girls — Black girls. Peace.

There should be some respect, especially based on there was a grand child involved in this family. It will not last so, when Morgan Freeman feels the hurt that his wife felt he should only realize that when you put it out, you should be able to take it. That young lady marrying her grandfather. I would really feel sad to see my daughters wanting to marry their grandfather, step or not. Believe it or not they had a healthy boy who looked exactly like my grandfather. Unfortunately my best friend, grandather, died three years later. She had to re-marry one of my uncles.

Have you worked with abused/confused children in a professional capacity? Well, I have and, perhaps, that is why you seem to have such an lackadaisical attitude about this inappropriate (at the very least) relationship between Morgan Freeman and his step-granddaughter. Even if there is no “legal” issue or prohibition, there is a huge MORAL one!!
If I am to follow your logic, then, would it be okay for a foster parent to have a sexual relationship with a precious child (now a teenager) that he took in just because there are no current legal ramifications?

Morgan is just sick. Even if it’s his STEP-granddaughter, how many times do you think he saw her growing up? She was a toddler when he and his wife married. So he saw her grow up because I’m sure she came to visit her grandmother and by extension, her grandfather (blood or not), Morgan Freeman. So for him to want to be with someone who was considered family is disgusting. I’d feel the same way if it was the granddaughter of a close family friend. The fact that she’s not blood means nothing. Plus, for those saying that Morgan Freeman isn’t a pedophile, how do you know? He’s been around her since she was four, so who knows? I have negative respect for him. It’s below zero. If I recall the history of this “story”, the female in question is the child of Morgan Freeman and his wife’s adoptive child. Adoption is legal; although not “blood/biological” it is still considered a legally-binding familial relationship. So Mr. Freeman is in a sexual relationship with his “relative”, albeit, adoptive. If I have the way the adoptive relationship is, please forgive me, but I submit it here anyway because it is family anyway, since adoption is involved. Scandal.

Some years ago, my stepson tried to “talk” to me; actually tried to start a relationship. He was in his 20s and I was in my 40s. According to many of the people posting here, it would have been fine to ignore my marital vows and disrespect my husband. As long as I was happy, all would have been good. Afterall, life is too short and black folks have too much to think about beside worring about the personal lives of others. Well, I recognized that as the mature adult in this situation, it was my responsibility to respect the boundaries of the relationships of all concerned and to demonstrate my loyalty to and love for my husband by explaining some things to Jr. He knew that if I had to say anything else on the subject, his father would share in that conversation. I had no further problem with him. The problem I think Freeman has as well as some of his supporters is that they 1. likewise don’t respect boundaries in relationship; 2. do not have much respect for women/girls (in the case of women/girls–don’t have much self respect); 3. have no loyalty at all towards the marital relationship or for the wife. This is pure selfish, self-centered amoral (if not immoral) hedonism. Plus it’s just plain NASTY!!! And the proper description for him, given the history he has with this young lady, is PEDOPHILE!!! His marriage to her will not erase this.

Morgan Freeman was recently featured on Oprah’s Master Class and I had the upmost respect for him as a person of color and a man. Now I see this post and I’m looking at him sideways. While the young lady was not a blood relative she was still a minor and he helped raise her as a member of his family. Pursuing a relationship with her in my opinion was wrong. There are a lot of thing that we find disgusting and many times we may find them unacceptable. As our society has evolved many thing that were completely unacceptable in the past are tolerated as well as respected in today’s society. The world and life goes on and people will forget about what happen in the past for the most part, except what becomes recorded history. We keep much better records today. Mr. Freeman may have done something that some of us cannot accept and then some of us can. I would not do what he did but there are some who would and then some who would do worst. There were many of our grandparents and before who got married or pregant before the age of 17. I don’t think people are going to stop having sex, regardless of the age. Sex has always been a taboo subject depending on the content and context. But the only way to get ahead of something is to have a mature approach about it. We are not going to change society simply by complaining about what anyone else is doing. We have to start at home and be an example for the people we love and teach them the morals, and values that we believe in as a family or as a society (the later first) then whatever happens happens. We can only do our part to influence and hopefully reach the people we love that respect the life we live.

I have never thought of Mr. Freeman as a great actor, I think even less of him now and I have no respect for him at all! I agree with comments from Phoenix, Mr. Freeman’s behavior is deplorable and can’t be justified or rationalized away! All of you men who have daughters just think if this was your daughter, would you want her step-grandfather having sex with her at age 17 and preparing her for a sexual affair years before this? NO you wouldn’t, well this young woman is somebody’s daughter it could be yours!

You are either extremely demented or liberal in the worst sense if you would actually give your blessings to your (17) year old, not-yet-an-adult and highly impressionable daughter’s relationship with any ADULT MALE, much less a (72) year-old man that served as her father figure!!
I hope that if your daughter is now an adult and as intelligent that you say she is, she will carefully monitor her children or (gasp!!) step-children when they become teenagers so that they are not corrupted by you!!

This has very little if anything; to do with black people, black culture or blackness period. This issue has more to do with morals, ethics and the mindset of Morgan Freeman. The thought process of some wealthy people differs vastly from most of humanity. Many of the wealthy believe because they have money; they can do whatever, with whomever they choose. Because we live in a society where ones financial status is more valuable than ones character, we see unimaginable behavior again and again. One need only observe for one minute, the behavior of the wealthy to draw the conclusion that most are self-righteous, egotistical narcissists. What Morgan Freeman has done should be viewed as despicable and shameful; but his peers, fans and Hollywood will continue to embrace him as a fellow-comrade, and admire his cinematic achievements. He’ll probably be praised for some piece of theatrical crap soon, and have bestowed upon him a lifetime achievement award. That’s just the realities of the immoral-ites. As long as Mr. Freeman’s behavior is viewed among the masses as an exception, and not the rule; man-kind may still have a fighting chance of being saved.

His wife of many years supported him when he didn’t have nothing….then he was caught driving with snow white and he thought she was his friend..until they had a car wreck and she sued him for lots of CASH!…what a friend….

No one wants to have the debate about values and the debate about values is where it should start.Mr freeman’s behavior is despicable and shameful.I once brought up the subject of values at a HBCU down south and one of the sponsors that organize the program got fighting mad with me. Elitism has a lot to do with this type mentality.In fact “Eltism” is one the basic tenets of the “AMERICAN CAPITALIST VALUE SYSTEM”.It is a value system that originates out of Europe.Mr Freeman thinks that he is above us poor little masses because is an one of the most “elite” actors in hollyweird.Come on man you are only “acting”. a dog can act like it is friendly,a monkey can actout some human qualities.Acting in itself is no great contribution to humanity unless it is in the context of contributing to something that is going to cause a paridigm shift from negative behavior to positive behavior.In short this guy is sick and if we sit back and let him getaway with it without challenging his behavior we should be ashamed also.Time out for excuses.

Reading about Morgan Freeman makes me feel sick, it reminds me of Woody Allen. Woody Allen married his adopted daughter. If one if adopted or step that means it family and you do not cross the line when it come to family. I have lost all respect for him, just like I did for Woody Allen. And I will never watch anything both of them are in again!

“As long as they’re happy who cares?” What about the people who got hurt by their actions? THINK a little bit more. If you build your happiness on the hurt you cause someone else, then it is ill-gotten and undeserved. Just because you’re rich and famous doesn’t exempt you from this one simple rule. Boundaries about relationships within families have evolved over time for a reason. For a community as a whole to be happy and functioning, self-serving and immoral (even if they are not illegal) actions cannot be supported and condoned.
