Gay Rights Groups Demanding Roland Martin be Fired from CNN

glaad calls for roland martin to be fired

CNN and TV One’s Roland Martin has come under serious scrutiny from the gay community after sending out controversial tweets that some argue amount to gay bashing.  GLAAD (Gay Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) is demanding that Martin be fired from CNN for his remarks.

In one of the tweets, Martin responded to an H&M ad that featured David Beckham scantily-dressed.

“If a dude at your Super Bowl party is hyped about David Beckham’s H&M underwear ad, smack the ish out of him!” said Martin.

GLAAD then sent Martin the following tweet: “@rolandsmartin Advocates of gay bashing have no place at @CNN #SuperBowl #LGBT”

Not to back down from a fight, Martin responded:
”@glaad @CNN well you’re clearly out of touch and clueless with what I tweeted. Way to assume, but you’re way off base.”

Martin spent much of the night fighting with critics on twitter, who accused him of homophobia.  He claimed that his comment about Beckham was not related to homosexuality, but as a joke about soccer fans.  But GLAAD claims that Martin has made homophobic remarks in the past.

“Martin has a history of anti-LGBT views. GLAAD is calling on him to be fired, joining many other LGBT activists and bloggers,” they said in a statement.

GLAAD also accused Martin of making fun of someone who work pink during the Super Bowl.

“Who the h**l was that New England Patriot they just showed in a head to toe pink suit? Oh, he needs a visit from #teamwhipdatass,” Martin wrote.

The group also referenced Martin’s defense of comedian Tracy Morgan when he said that he’d stab his son if he found out that he was gay.

“Say I’m wrong. Fine. Say I’m insensitive to gays and lesbians. Fine. I’ll wait for the usual bigots to say that I’m defending Tracy Morgan because he’s black. Fine,” Martin wrote.

“Sorry, if I’m being honest here and not focusing on political correctness,” he continued. “I just believe that many of you would be shocked and amazed that you laughed hysterically at some of the most sexist, homophobic, racist stuff imaginable by comedians of all shapes, sizes, ethnic backgrounds, genders and s****l orientations.”

GLAAD notes that there is evidence that Martin is a supporter of “conversion therapy” which allegedly convinces gay people to become heterosexual.   They referenced 2006 remarks on his website stating that, “My wife, an ordained Baptist minister for 20 years, has counseled many men and women to walk away from the gay lifestyle, and to live a chaste life.”

I hope Black churches of all kinds will not support conversion therapy. When parents spend their money for this type of therapy their expectation is that their child will be cured of homosexuality and become straight.

The problem with this is that this is really just an illusion and not true.
    http://bit.ly/Jck4ZV
All research is suggesting that people change their behavior and their values. There is no indication that the very basic desires to change as the result of the therapy.
There are statements from all major mental health groups, based on scientific studies, that show that most people who undergo this therapy have a loss in their mental health.

The motivation to change are usually rooted in both religious and familial views of homosexuality
as both sinful and a mental illness. Often the parents are pressuring therapy that is unwanted by the child.

The same people who would be willing to waive the prohibited behavior, often also would love to believe that they can actually “convert” not only the lifestyle, but the real attractions completely. They end up discovering later that this approach is not the case and are devastated. This results in some cases of suicide and leaving the faith.

Besides all the mainstream psychiatric, psychological work, social, the World Health Organization advisory groups and even many experts among people who have been involved in “reparative therapy” mostly agree that it does not work in shifting the attractions.

According to those who believe such conversions, the success rate is about 0.4%
    http://www.religioustolerance….

Warren Throckmorton, a psychologist and professor at the evangelical Grove City College recently surveyed 239 men in the “mixed orientation marriages” in which her husband is attracted to other men and women is heterosexual. About half of the males had been through a conversion therapy.

Throughout their marriage, men, “same s*x attractions increased …” and “attractions for your spouse declined,” according to Throckmorton.

Another study by Mark Yarhouse, a researcher at Regent University – which was founded by Pat Robertson – reached the same conclusion.

The leader of the Exodus, the largest audience of people (thousands) that changed from a gay to the heterosexual lifestyle admits that this does not include the end of same-s*x attraction for 99.9% of the group.
“There was a change in our beliefs about therapy focused change orientation and do not believe that it is effective.”

But organized groups are still motivated either by profit or religious dogmas to sell this quackery.

many of it’s most famous advocates have been caught in deceit or exploitation of various sorts.

Becase this core premise of conversion therapy is so ludicrous, even Arthur Goldberg of Jonah, who was previously imprisoned for fraud, says “JONAH rejects so-called “conversion therapies …”

Dr. Nicholosi who is the father of repartive therapy and quoted here in support of it, also has previously admitted that his patients do not loose their same s*x attractions.

It seems that most of the tiny group of people that say they have achieved this conversion are also in the conversion business, like David Pickup.

Is this position in conflict with religion?

A minor with religious conflicts about homosexuality that believes he would like to become straight is faced with an extreme dilemma. There really is nothing he can do be it therapy or prayer that will achieve this goal.

But the minor with a religious conflict about homosexuality that understands that his s****l orientation will not change can from this objective ground become abstinent from s*x. As I have pointed out above, reparative conversion type therapy is completely inapropriate to facilatate this goal.

After success with such an effort over a number of years such a person could decide if they want to also be part of a mixed orientation marriage. This would also be motivated by religious reasons.

Evidence shows that such a decision is not likely to succeed and is likely to cause much heartache to their partners, but that is another discussion.

The Catholic church and most other churches that believe that homosexual acts are sinful does not believe that same s*x attractions per se are sinful. Judaism and Islam also don’t.

In the evangelical black church their are a variety of views.

The final holdouts are often some Evangelical Christians dealing with their sons and daughters who insist that homosexual orientation per se is a great sin and satanic.

For this extreme theology, literal castration seems to be the logical method of healing.

Many articles in evangelical journals are now questioning reparative therapy.

Southern Baptist Theological Seminary President Al Mohler
“We understand that s****l attraction and a profile of someone’s sexuality is a complex of factors, some of which are certainly not chosen,” he continued. “It’s not just a matter of choice. It’s not something that’s turned on or turned off.”

Of course there are other Black churches that don’t view homosexuality as wrong at all. They support gays and tend to believe that the Bible should be a vehicle for love not a weapon. That religious texts have been used in the past to justify attitudes and laws that are recognized today as morally wrong and unjust – such as discrimination against women, people of color and religious minorities.

    Dr. Spitzer
“If people can recognize that being gay is something that can not be changed and that efforts to change will be disappointing and may be harmful if it can be more widely known it would be great.”

Those who want to change their s****l behavior especially because they believe it is a sin can find help with a priest or councellor who can help them to succeed with, modesty, chastity, and patience, without charlatans who can not work to change its basic attractions.

Without clear evidence that a treatment is effective it can not in good conscience, recommend an unproven treatment that can cause undo pain, suffering and death

I want to form a group for Heterosexuals Rights! If a man or a woman chose to have relations with the same s*x of their own gender can have rights and attach them to civil rights, then the latter should apply. Then I need to exercise my heterosexual rights. I want to tell public schools not to teach that ungodliness to my children.
I want to protect my right to love God freely and keep his commandments!
I want to protect my right to teach my children about the Union between a man and a woman.
I want to protect my right to free speech so I can stand on statement that their is a mental confusion for a man or a woman to take on the form of the opposite and say that God made them this way.
A Gay lifestyle is wrong because it keeps you in a state of SIN, and causes you to forever be separated from God. God love you but hates the Sin.
Fact: in a Man & Man relationship One will take on the role of a woman. And in a Woman & Woman Relationship one would be what they call the Buch! A role of a man. Some go as far as change their s*x and say (GOD) made a mistake they should have been what they chose to change to.
People open your eyes. You may not believe in God or the devil, but that does not make them not exist.
The two is very much real. The Bible says that in the last days men will be lovers of themselves, turning from the natural to the unnatural. However this may be two separate scriptures but it is in the Bible.
How dare anyone spit out vile and hateful words because someone do not agree with their life style?
I also don’t agree with murderers, thieves, child molesters, physical, emotional, and mental abuse on anyone as well as homosexual lifestyles, and I will not leave readers to guess I would tell them why. Sin!
And sin leads to death! Read Revelations 21:8.
I strongly agree that this Gay Rights saga has been taking advantage of anyone who dare challenge it’s true purpose. ( to silent all Heterosexuals from speaking out about their beliefs)
If I was Isaiah Washington or Roland Martin I would sue Glaad, and anyone else who goes against my free liberties. We all have our constitutional rights. And when you start preventing someone to provide for their family by taking their jobs, you prevent them from their pursuit of happiness..
Please people seek God like never before!

And to reference the black guy who was ruthlessly attacked in Atlanta for being gay, is to bring total dishonesty to this topic. No one in their right mind, gay or otherwise would cosign on that.

I too would like to know: why hasn’t GLAAD gone after Sean Hannity, Bill OReilly, Michael Savage (who’s still back on the air btw) and others of the conservative party? The LGBT community seem to pick and choose those they wish to go after, people like Roland Martin who don’t have a strong enough support base to support him. But white conservatives get a pass…

    Bunch of hypocrites!

Funny how the LGBT community is quick to call everyone who doesn’t agree with their lifestyles homophobes and bigots. Nice try.

The real bigots are the white gays who only claim affinity with gays of another race when it helps the overall goal of the gay movement. How many of these same white gays are lobbying for the release of thousands of black men unjustly imprisoned right here in the USA? Or how many white gays are working hard to find the REAL reasons why AIDS disproportionately effects blacks more so than any other ethnic group?

How many were willing to call the white democrats out as racist during the 2008 Presidential election? Not ONE voice from the LGBT community spoke out in public support of black democrats. It was even more quiet when blacks were totally disenfranchised in the 2000 and 2004 elections. But now we’re supposed to side with the gays to push their lifestyle as mainstream culture? Nope. Fight your own battles. We won’t fight for you.

We fought for the right to LIVE as human beings. You fight for special rights to marry, not be critiqued and to have your LIFESTYLE accepted as normal. Sorry, but most black people (as many as 70% of us in Cali alone) don’t agree with your lifestyle. Find another ally.

Tiffany, Rush Limbaugh, the nation’s leading Right Wing spokesperson has for years been making homophobic, racist and sexist incendiary comments and he gets a free pass from GLAAD and the other gay rights organizations. Why is that? Here is a single, solitary, Black man during Black History Month taken completely out of context and attacked for “supposedly” making a homophobic statement?? An attack on that brother is nothing more than a thinly veiled attack on ALL BLACK people. It is obviously also a call-out to those White gays who are wavering, to vote against Pres. Obama come election time this November. Gays can be just as racist as straights. No difference there. You got it right.

Thank you, Tiffany. You “said precisely” what I was trying get Bro. Hassan to understand! But [you] said it a lot more adequately and eloquently than I did. No, I do not agree with the gay lifestyle. But having members of my own family who are gay, and that I love dearly, if someone was to put their hands on any of them, I, would help send them to the grave!! As would other members of my family who also do not agree with the gay lifestyle either. We are family, first and foremost. Attack one of us, you attack us all. Some of my gay family members and their friends have been “discriminated against” by “other gays” NOT because they were gay but because they were “BLACK and GAY!!!”

I believe that gay marriage should be legalized becaused I believe in a seperation of church and state. Now am I gay? Nope. Do I want my kids to be gay? NOOO. But please tell me something can you honestly say that what that man said was that offensive? That’s what the comments should be about.

yeah thanks man. That’s exactly how it should be. Respecting boundaries.

My original comment was going to be the last paragraph I wrote but good gracious everybody is just so angry. Can we just talk openly about the situation? It’s not like he came out and said “I hate gay people, they stank!” lol shouts out to Chappelle. He made a comment which was indirect and it didn’t attack anyone. I mean I’m in France and I saw the ads in Paris at H&M outlet of mr beckham. They did look a little sweet. And I’m saying that because, openly, the man isn’t gay. If it was Anderson Cooper that took those photos, and he commented the same way, then I’d see what the anger is about. To me people are up here using whatever they’ve gone through personally to try to find a reason to be emotional.

GLAAD is going overboard. If thy fire him, please fire bill O’reilly please. Because he says things that are so blantly racists but not directly racists. And you just want to smack the h**l out of him. But will they fire him no. If CNN fires Martin I will be so dissapointed.

    News flash:

When Imus referred to black female athletes as “nappy-headed hos” he got away with an apology and STILL kept his job.

I guess gay rights are the last frontier. It is an unnatural relationship that produces NO seeds (yet they want to be parents but can’t produce their own) which should say something in itself.

So No! gay rights are NOT aligned with the cultural struggles of indigenous people who have been denied the right to LIVE in constitutional freedoms because we were and still are written as 3/5ths

Homosexuality has always been taboo in the majority of cultures throughout the world because it is not a seed producing relationship and the s****l intercourse of such a relationship is not physiologically normal based on physical penetration (especially among males) of the a**s which releases feces.

People of color have probably been the hardest to “sell” with regard to this s****l behavior because we were known to be the most spiritual of people with black women being touted by many intellectual groups as the most god-fearing and faithful creatures. So, if something does not align within us spiritually, then we know this is a little check that can not be ignored.

So, the black community as a whole should not bow down and just accept depravity no matter how it is packaged. And we do not have to accept homosexuality nor should we feel obligated to postulate ourselves for its cause because one struggle has nothing to do with another.

With that being said if adults choose this lifestyle, it is their choice, not mine. So I don’t have a problem with folks doing them, but I have a problem when doing you is pushed on to me like I have to like it or accept it. Just like homosexuals don’t have to accept my heterosexual preference.

Actually keep your business in your bedroom. America is a hyper-s****l society anyway, following Europe. Gays do your thing, but know it is a certain way of life that doesn’t mix with the indigenous peoples, just like those groups that are pushing for legislation to legalize pedophilia since there are men who are “naturally” attracted to children.

    What’s next people?

Stand firm community. There is a fast moving darkness in this place that is not natural to humanity and what we know to be “right”. Media is controlled by that element.

    There is more to come.

lol nobody’s mad. Im a 23 yobw I say if you want to be gay be gay. I got plenty of gay friends. thats exaclty what Coretta Scott was saying- be free to do what you want in america without violence. This is America you deserve to have rights. And regardless of the American Christian Heritage you’ve been giving that freedom and allowed to be married in 5 states…i think it is now.

So you not about to come here and tell me that being gay is the same thing as being black. h**l the f**k to the no. You are classified as a group of people based on the CHOICE TO LIVE A CERTAIN LIFESTYLE. Blacks are opressed based on being born wih certain genetics. And as a result of that we have no true identity and no true idea of our original heritage. And its stil affecting us today15% of african americans are without and have been withiut jobs for 6 months. that’s double the national average and they think 8% is bad. h**l most blacks still don’t know what a recession is.

I just read earlier that someone said that the black community is anti-gay and racists. Number 1 just because we decide to create a group and voice our views based on being black in america, where anyone is allowed to voice there opinion mind you, doesnt make us racists or gay bashers. Number 2 all races have someone thats gay in it and alll races Socially see being gay as being taboo. So whatever you’ve experienced, which I’m assuming that someone black has attacked u either verbally or physically, don’t take it out on us. You are an oppressed and often attacked group. But you cannot compare your experiences with ours. This guy even used being sent to n**i internment camps by Hitler. Man ANYBODY not Christian, blue eyes, blonde hair, and not white, were sent to the camps, so what are you saying?

All I’m saying is violence is not right. Nor is discrimination or ignorant remarks against another group. The man said what he said on his personal website and he’s entitled to that. But as a public figure he should uSe more discretion about everything because. now hes in the spotlight. I dont thi k he deserves to loose his job for something so indirect as this. Clearly he doesn’t agree with homosexuality but I doubt if he gets on a Don aimus level.

To not respect a lifestyle-orientation as normal in a modern mores American is a taboo. Homosexual life styles are not the same as RACE, Black or White. Through DNA you can determine RACE,s*x and some cases nationality but not Homosexual or Heterosexual. The later are behavioral traits and can mostly be determine through observation. Vaginas or Penises can determine possible Heterosexuality but not Homosexual presence. Its normal for an observant to determine a person’s physical s*x and normally assume they are Feminine or Masculine. Mr. Roland never mentioned Homosexuality nor Lesbianism. His observation of the individual’s behavior determined their Femininity or Masculinity. If a man sitting in the mist of women made rude or s****l remarks about a females panties, I’m sure his respect for women would be questioned. Football is not considered a Homosexual game. The game is promoted as a masculine male Heterosexual game that’s mostly enjoyed by the same. That is why there was a uproar at playing a gay commercial during the Superbowl. There are feminine males that play football but keeps it secret because it is a masculine game. Many females that play football or basketball are looked upon as masculine or lesbians. That is the reason female basketball can’t get the attention like a skimpy tennis dress can. A male makes a homosexual reference with exuberance towards another males underwear would normally bring attention to his behavioral sexuality if, he is in Heterosexual company. Someone in more than 2 to 5% pink will also have their sexuality questioned. Breast cancer research foundations in America uses pink to represent Female concerns. Boy babies are mostly dressed in blue to denote their s*x and masculinity, pink for females.

I don’t need scripture to tell me that although some of the most strident gays on this board seem to think that somehow “to breed” another human being is a threat (?) to their continued practice of homosexuality. Trying to sound intellectually correct and putting a spin on something that flies in the face of human procreation. & for those who have the gall to think that the bible is “a white mans book” what is imperfect cannot create somthing perfect! Jesus uttered 1 bible principal that if followed would eliminate EVERY problem the entire humans race faces when he uttered the golden rule alone! “Treat your neighbor as you want to be treated” man didn’t come up with that perfect solution, the son of God introduced it along with thousands of other principles which if applied would solve our issues, even imperfect men see the logic in giving instruction manuals yet there are people ignorant enough to think a perfect Loving Creator would gives us this complex thing called life & not give us instructions as to how to make it successful? Really? GOD INVISIBLE QUALITIES ARE CLEARLY SEEN FROM THE WORLDS CREATION ONWARD BECAUSETHEY ARE PERCIEVED BY THE THINGS MADE EVEN HIS ETERNAL POWER & GODSHIP THAT THEY “CRAZY PEOPLE WHO SAY THERE IS NO GOD” ARE INEXCUSABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

People who know right from wrong don’t have to debate what’s right, just do what’s right & let God do what he’s gonna do, we don’t have to judge he’s already showed his feelings on the matter & will show it again its not our battle to fight! The issue will without a doubt be settled but the Judgment will be on the unrepented racist, adulterers, fornicaters, thieves, liars, cowards & judgemental people in this Satanic world, so for those who know & practice what is morally right & who strive to be God fearing individuals Psalms 37:9-11 “just a little while longer”

Of course, there’s a reason the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force links the issues of African-American civil rights and gay civil rights: Coretta Scott King, Martin Luther King’s widow, told them to. In a remarkable address before the Task Force’s annual meeting, Mrs. King gave a forceful statement on the importance of gay rights to the overall civil rights struggle (read Mrs. King’s entire speech here.)

And this was not the first time Mrs. King made it clear that groups like the Concerned Women for America have no idea what they’re talking about when they try to speak on behalf of African-Americans by criticizing the struggle for gay equality. Excerpts of Mrs. King’s numerous public statements in favor of gay civil rights are posted below. Please feel free to cite any of the following quotations the next time a far-right extremist dares to speak on behalf of Martin Luther King and America’s African-American community:

Make Room At The Table for Lesbian and Gay People

Coretta Scott King, speaking four days before the 30th anniversary of her husband’s assassination, said Tuesday the civil rights leader’s memory demanded a strong stand for gay and lesbian rights. “I still hear people say that I should not be talking about the rights of lesbian and gay people and I should stick to the issue of racial justice,” she said. “But I hasten to remind them that Martin Luther King Jr. said, ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.’” “I appeal to everyone who believes in Martin Luther King Jr.’s dream to make room at the table of brother- and sisterhood for lesbian and gay people,” she said. – Reuters, March 31, 1998.

Speaking before nearly 600 people at the Palmer House Hilton Hotel,
Coretta Scott King, the wife of the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Tuesday called on the civil rights community to join in the struggle against homophobia and anti-gay bias. “Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood,” King stated. “This sets the stage for further repression and violence that spread all too easily to victimize the next minority group.” – Chicago Defender, April 1, 1998, front page.

Quoting a passage from her late husband’s writing, Coretta Scott King
reaffirmed her stance on gay and lesbian rights Tuesday at a luncheon
celebrating the 25 anniversary of the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, a national gay rights organization. “We are all tied together in a single garment of destiny . . . I can never be what I ought to be until you are allowed to be what you ought to be,” she said, quoting her husband. “I’ve always felt that homophobic attitudes and policies were unjust and unworthy of a free society and must be opposed by all Americans who believe in democracy,” King told 600 people at the Palmer House Hilton, days before the 30th anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination on April 4, 1968. She said the civil rights movement “thrives on unity and inclusion, not division and exclusion.” Her husband’s struggle parallels that of the gay rights movement, she said. – Chicago Sun Times, April 1, 1998, p.18.

Bayard Rustin worked with Dr. Martin Luther King JR. during the Civil Rights movement. Rustin states he was the mastermind behind the march to Washington, D.C., proudly was openly gay, and initiated the LGBT movement because of his association to the Civil Rights movement. This action open causes many gays and lesbians to associate their cause to any injustices that have occurred in the black community. A black man taught LGBT how to “make it work” in their advantage.

I wish a person from the media was fired every time they used the “N-Word” or associated African Americans with derogatory references such as animals, welfare lovers or overly sexed while hungry for fried chicken and watermelon. Especially when statements about the President of the United States; First Lady Michelle Obama or any public figure of African American blood is spoken to with such outrageously negative verbiage.

If CNN fires Roland Martin, which I do not believe they should, over GLAAD attempting to bait Martin into a fight, they are clearly not registering the content of Martin’s tweet. Truth be told, America should fire Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, Andre’ Carson and the entire staff at FOX NEWS for their racist remarks. I am certain there are more, but I am only naming a few. Reality Check: Traditionally, blue is for boys and pink is for girls. Is Mr. Martin to be tainted for that? I think not. Lastly, there are indeed persons, both male and female who’ve previously identified with being “gay” and they have made a conscience choice to change. Additionally there are Christians who like other people of varying faiths, with s****l attraction to the same s*x and they have again, chosen to change… chosen to seek to over come what they deem as a struggle that conflicts with what they believe to be right or wrong as well as against their faith. People struggle with different things in life and sexuality which is a powerful emotion and feeling, is a huge struggle for some people, whether it be desires to be intimate with someone of the same gender or inability to have fidelity in a heterosexual relationship or constant desires to participate in s****l intercourse with numerous partners. There are people who have these struggles and do want to change and please don’t knock them for that. For people who prefer to continue in any of the aforementioned behaviors, that to is their choice. We all as people have our choices to made as well as the consequences that come along with them. Christians believe that consequences have eternal impact. That is our belief, don’t bash us for that. Thank you.

what is this person talking about homosexuality being disproven in the bible. Let’s take the bible out of it for one second. Being gay is wrong, simply because it is not natural. People of the same s*x are not able to procreate and that should tell you something right there. As for Roland Martin, if his wife is a woman of God, then maybe he should use his words a little better. He Maybe he does not realize that his mouth is not putting a good reflection on her. So if you believe in God or not, being gay is wrong, by the standards of the bible and of nature.

Brother Hassan: Opinions vary. You are most certainly entitled to yours. But identity, purpose and direction are values that have NOT gone out of favor in the Black community, no matter how much you may stringently disagree. There are a number of factors, both internal and external to the family structure of the Black community that can account for [our] familial breakdown. One attribute, however sensitive this may be for you, is the contemporary issue of homosexuality and where that fits into the overall mosaic of the Black community? As can be attested to by many of the comments on this board. I have several members of my own family who are gay and I love them just the same as I love the members of my family who are straight. They “know” and “understand” that I, and other members of the family do not agree with “their lifestyle” and that is what [we] in the family consider it to be. But ostracize them for it? No. We would not condone doing that because “they are family first and foremost” and God is the only one who can make His feelings and judgement(s) known about that. We are not perfect human beings and God takes his good time to deal with that.

No. You still view them as perverts and abnormal, but by airbrushing it with a level of pseudo-tolerance merely based on blood affiliation, you have convinced yourself that you are bigotry-free. You are not. you are still woefully undereducated about the “lifestyle”( orientation), despite your using religion as a shield to rationalize your simmering hatred. One area in the black community that you bleeders and breeders are WAY off base, is in the area of HIV education and prevention. You have demonized men who sleep with men as the PRIMARY culprit behind black women being infected with HIV( despite all studies showing that HETEROSEXUAL men with multiple female partners is the MAIN reason), and yet, despite the villification, your women will continue to get HIV and die, because you all were too busy looking for a “boogey man” to blame s**t on, instead of reaching out to a group who have fought HIV/AIDS for 30 years and can educate you properly on it. How is anti-homosexuality “racist”. And if anything, homosexuals are the bigots. Let’s look at these terms more closely:

    big·ot [big-uht] noun
a person who is utterly intolerant of any differing creed, belief, or opinion.

    rac·ist [rey-sist] noun
a person who believes in racism, the doctrine that a certain human race is superior to any or all others.

Homosexuality goes against my religion and I believe in Christianity. To knock me is to knock my religion and you have no right to do that.

People that are living by the Laws of God are not and will not agree to your lifestyle chooses. A Christain should say “Read what God said about the lifestyle,it is wrong in His, God’s sight”.
Mionorities are race groups that have a smaller population in any country that they may live in, not a lifestyle group. Mr Martin has the right to state his views by the laws of the United States and of GOD.

Why is freedom of speech only freedom of speech when it is convenient? Why can’t people not agree with the gay lifestyle and have it interpreted as just that, as opposed to being homophobic? I think everyone has the right to believe in or accept whatever they like. But if one side can be vocal about their opinion both sides should be able to be vocal. I personally love people, I have gay friends but I don’t condone the lifestyle and they accept that. It should be as okay for me to say I disagree as it is for someone to say the opposite. I am no less human for my beliefs and how I live than someone who is gay. We can agree to disagree but you make it about hate when you try to force an acceptance of one belief or the other. I hate that young people are taking their lives but I blame both sides. We all have to stop feeding the fight and agree to disagree.

My question: Is there a country called “Homosexia” that the people migrated to America from or is there a nationality called “Gaya”? Correct me if I’m wrong but the constitution protects you from persecution because of race, religious affiliation, creed and color not because of s****l orientation. Just because these people have banded together does not make them a protected entity. I am so tired of hearing about hate crimes against gay beings when I am still dealing with black men being dragged behind pick up trucks and randomly shot by police officers. Roland Martin has the right to tweet whatever he wants. The fact that it is misinterpreted by GLAAD does not warrant his being fired. And the rest of the country needs to stop being afraid of homosexuals threats to do whatever, whenever they disagree with a comment, statement or action of someone that is heterosexual.

I think that demanding that Roland Martin be fired for his comments by GLADD is quite UNNECCESSARY and hyper agressive; regardless if he is anti gay rights and has a history of possibly supporting gay conversion therapy. I have much respect for GLADD and it proactive efforts toward equality. However, while all people, whether they are public figures or not, should exercise so degree of sensitivity in their comments, even with jokes, I would take Martin’s comments as being typically macho and sexist. If anything, someone on his tweet could have replied back that “more men would have preferred seeing him in the UNDERWEAR COMMERCIAL than David B.–” now that is better joke. GLADD, must exercise some boundaries in its efforts to educate and ensure equality and inclusivity for the LGBT community– especially with the black community. Being a predominately white organization, GLADDS responses can be potentially be ill recieved by the black community and seen as OVER POLICING peoples rights and even reverse BULLYING. GLADD must be careful by not subtlely taking on the actions of the OPPRESSORS. There is a line to be drawn. I too dislike homophobia and know all too well its effects and results on our youth and adults, yet fighting and coming after everyone can exude potential draw backs to the greater cause. GLADD must exercise other creative resources and responses for whatever they feel is potentially alarming. All people have some egotististic, separatist and fearbased discriminating belief systems and practices within them that can help perpetuate- (racism, sexism, homophia, chauvinism). We are all a work in progress, including Mr. Martin- even he “doth do protest too much”.

I don’t think Martin meant anything against the Gay community. It’s actually an expression he was invoking by using the term “If “X”….,slap the ish out of them”. “X” could be anything. But I guess GLAAD assumed he was referring to the Gay community liking this guy in underwear. But GLADD also pre-supposes a gay person would like this guy who was in the commercial wearing underwear, and so there for Roland must be talking about gay people. GLADD is really stretching reality on this one. Roland used an common expression. Rolan did not explicitly say slap the ish our of Gay people. Gladd is putting words in places they were not.

I have gay members of my own family who are not always in lock step agreement with GLAAD also! While I support gay rights and a person’s right to be intimately involved with anyone they so choose I draw the line at openly proselytizing that viewpoint as somehow being aligned with the Civil Rights Movement which “was NOT about gaining rights specifically for the homosexual lifestyle.” It was never about any of that, even though there were members in the Movement who had gay lifestyles. Let’s be very clear about that, this being Black History Month.

Are you just as sympathetic when gays hurl insults against heterosexuals on a daily basis and go on all out “witch hunts” to silence anyone who dissents or has an opposing view of their lifestyle, proclaim that “gay is the new black” and make grandiose proclamations that they will “take over the world?” And, having to read about gay rights and the media’s (particularly CNN, Headline News and MSNBC)gay-friendly (almost a bias because I rarely hear any bad things done by gays — from the coverage you would think that all gays are saints!!)bias, you can’t fathom why this subject would ruffle the feathers of the most tolerant amongst us!!!

Why is okay for gays to get online and in other media outlets and disrespect and label heterosexuals as idiots, immoral, screwed up, bad parents, etc. and we are supposed to sit silently by or pretend that we support or agree with the gay agenda when nothing could be further from the case?!!!

This is America and we have freedom of speech and we should not have to pretend that we like or support something, if left unchecked, may lead to long and unhealthy repercussions for this country and the world.

Let me be clear. I do not agree with gay bashing or violence. I believe in intelligent discussion and respect for opposing views. But gays do not have a monopoly on suffering. Were gays brought over in large numbers and dispersed throughout the world to be beast of burden? I don’t think so.

And, as gays like to tell us, some of the slaves were gay. Even if you accept that proposition, THAT WAS NOT THE PRIMARY REASON FOR THE SLAVE TRADE. THAT WAS NOT EVEN THE SECONDARY REASON FOR THE SUBJAGATION OF BLACK PEOPLE IN THIS COUNTRY AND GLOBALLY AND, THUS, THERE IS NO COMPARISON!!!!

Now, all of sudden, gays want us to join them in their civil rights struggle as if we are kindred spirits on opposite sides of the same coin.

You are comparing apples with fruit that defies description. When a black person walks in the room, he or she cannot hide that fact or the perceptions that may arise. This is not necessarily the case for gays. And, are all nonblack gays compassionate to current black civil rights and issues? Were there any gays (non-black) on the “Bull Connor” or the “J. Edgar Hoover” team when blacks were struggling in the south and the rest of this country?

Gays are not persecuted in this country. Gays are represented in every field imaginable and many are wealthy and well-connected. They are also perspicacious and persuasive and well-organized in their advocacy. They have framed this debate so that opposing views are silenced and those with those views are labeled homophobic when that is not always the case.

However, “straight” folks better wake up because their message is sticking and gaining a foothold, particularly with young people in this country. And, that is one of their major goals. There is so much s****l fluidity and experimentation going on now. Is it because these young folks (many in elementary school) are actually gay/bisexual or have we created an environment that legitamizes this behavior? With the current gay politics, do we dare even touch this subject without fear of be labeled with the “homophobia brush.”

By the time America wakes up, it will be too late. You will have preschool children enumerating all the merits of being gay when they should be learning the fundamentals to become productive citizens. I have already had cases of same s*x activity being forced on children and had to handle the investigations very carefully so that I am not accused of being insensitive to gays or the fact that, in one case, mommmy left daddy and is now shacked up with a new “mommy” and little Delores is confused as h**l, but we want to act like there is absolutely no psychological or emotional repercussions for the children in these situations.

I am still “struggling” to decipher how “children of traditional divorce” may have ALL SORTS OF PROBLEMS but children in gay relationships are just “ALL RIGHT.”

To summarize, America should tread carefully on this issue. If we continue along this trek, we will be condoning censorship and people will refrain from speaking out if they fear that they will be lambasted or even lose their jobs.

In the future, Roland Martin should “censor” his comments or he will become the next “Isiah Washington” of the black community where he will become a “straight pariah” in his profession and virtually destroyed by the “gay mafia” and their advocates in the media, the congress and the White House.

      Leonarde,

I didn’t get the memo that God and the Bible are now obsolete??????? I have never seen anything that disproves God or the bible. This conversation is so interesting because you have gays comparing themselves to blacks, christian condemming gays, black gays condemining the black church and white gays telling black people that they are bigots. Really????
Gay is not the new black. Homosexually is a sin according to the Bible just like fornication, stealing, adultery and murder. We don’t have rallies and marches to insist on the rights of adulterers.(Let celebrate the fact the I cheat on my wife) It is the only sin that being highlight as a right. Now with that being said, for all the Christians. No sin is considered more than another so you can’t unfairly judge one more than another. As far as rights are concerned we have a set of laws that govern how groups of people should be treated and right such as death benefits and so one should (in my opinion) be the same for everyone as required by law. On the otherhand let’s not change the definition of a word. Marriage is defined as a union between man and woman. Why not call it mirage? I think the reason that many people condemn the Bible is simply because they don’t want to be accountable. No one who really studies the bible should be surprised about all of this. It is not only written that this movement to call things that are wrong right and it also decribes the attitudes that gay people have. (being turned over to their own recompense)Now to Roland Martins’ comment, David Becham was beautiful in that commercial but if I saw my husband enjoying it I would have slapped the sh** out of him!!!!!

Many have misunderstood others who respect gays and not their lifestyle. I strongly oppose gays and their agenda. For all I care they should stay in the closet. Keep their “stuff” to themselves.

GLAAD need to know their place. For them to request that Martin be fired is ridiculous and demonic.

GLAAD seems to be demonic infested group.

Further more whoever you are that speaks derogatorily of the BIBLE is just plainly expressing fear of reading and accepting it’s truths. Hence hiding behind the wall of ignorance and falsehood. Struggling to come face to face with the truth. What they do is to find and build insurmountable lies to defend their stands against the TRUTH.

SIN is SIN! The God of the bible condemns sin and rejects it. No excuse brothers and sisters, no excuse.

One of many things that really concerns me is that in every gay relationships that I have seen one of the partners has to assume the role of the “female” and the other the role of the “male”. Does this not say to us that a marriage is definitely between a man and a woman.

Come on not even dogs, nor cats, nor crocodiles or any other creature lives like this..

I don’t know if he meant this as a joke or what but even if you are not supportive of the gay lifestyle no one should advocate violence against someone because of that lifestyle. That’s what this “tweet” sounded like to me. If it was meant as a joke leave the jokes to comedians. This is the reason I thought the whole Tracy Morgan thing was blown out of proportion. I’m no fan of Tracy Morgan’s but apparently a lot of white gays were. A lot of whites and gays are fans of these black minstrel comedians. They will pay top dollar to hear them routinely call black people n*gg*r and say other racially offensive things against blacks. Whites including GAYS think it’s the funnest thing in the world until these minstrels go off script and say something that’s offensive to THEM.

In Roland’s case he’s NOT a comedian. Even though many people including myself don’t take him seriously and see him as a joke on CNN. But because he’s on a news network he should be held to a different standard than a Tracy Morgan.

This must be the most racist, homophobic Web site in the U.S. Blacks have earned a reputation for hating Jews, gays, Asians, whites. This site is a fulfillment of racist, homophobic hate that reminds me of the KKK and Aryan Brotherhood. Blacks are now becoming the minority group in this country with the fewest members. Instead of spewing hate, you should be trying to build bridges. You need all the friends you can get. Spewing neo-n**i, KKK, Aryan Brotherhood hate towards any group will not help your cause now, or in the future, as Latinos and other minorities leave this kind of bigotry and hate behind them. What an eyeopener of antigay hate and promotion of antigay violence. I must now look at my black friends in a different light. One last thing: Stop comparing black experience to the gay experience. We were put into the ovens by the Nazis, along with Jews. This did not happen to blacks. You know nothing of our experience. What a racist, homophobic site.

It’s idiots like you that should be smacked!!! When you can point out one systematic and consistent form of oppression against anyone coming from the black community then maybe you can began to equate any “insensitive” remark with the oppressive attributes of the KKK and Neo Nazis (And the American Government). Black people have been systematically killed off, enslaved, marginalized, maligned, redlined, discriminated against, subject to covert drug infestation by your tax-backed government, and many more things to numerous to list. And your low-brow a*s is on here talking about black people who don’t accept a lifestyle. (Strickly the commentors, cause Roland Martin’s tweet was misinterpreted). Please go kill yourself, you ignorance is completely dangerous and resistant to people of color’s chances to receive justice. Your ignorance makes you just as detrimental as the tea party/KKK, and the rest of these white supremacist groups. Its just that you don’t realize how much your just like those people.

So you now support violence against LGBTs. It always comes out, the neo-n**i hate from bigots who luxuriate in fantasies of victimization. You laid it on the line just like Roland Martin–violence. If Reverend Martin Luther King were alive, he would vomit at you and your call to violence. You sound just like Lester Maddox and George Wallace talking about black people. Your point of view is equally bigoted and racist. Your call to violence should be shared by this Web site with the police.

Your attempt to invoke MLK (the white commercially manufactured version) will not make side step my assertion. And the assertion was that you should be smacked not because you are gay, but because you are ignorant!!! You came to the discussion making comparisons that your frankly don’t have any knowledge about. One, white supremacy, and two, African American history. And you had the nerve to use the world delusional when I referenced African American oppression. It’s your dumb a*s that sounds like a white supremacist teabagger who just happens to be gay. Every claim I make can be substantiated with facts about our situation. You may not be aware of these facts, but who gives a s**t. Stay out of the conversation and stay off of our discussion boards. We have real problems to deal with much larger than be “offended” because someone made an “insensitive” remark. Like I said before, kill yourself!!!

First of all you are attacking a straw man. I didn’t even mention the denial or acceptance of gay rights so what point are you arguing? With that said, you and anybody else who wants to make the comparison between blacks and gays can go to h**l. You are drawing conclusions based on your white supremacist education system that purposely ignored or misinterpreted African American history. The system of oppression levied against blacks is unparalleled and I take offense to you even thinking that these struggles are one in the same. So like I said, you all can go to h**l for coming to this post with your false accusation about what the African American community is or isn’t doing to gay people. Especially when your delivery reeks of white supremacist rhetoric and simple mindedness.

A gang of black antigay hate mongers just attacked a gay man, calling him a f****t while they beat him, in Atlanta, the home of Rev. King. They made a video of it and posted it online. The Smoking Gun Web site has contacted the Atlanta police department because the black gay man was so frightened of being murdered by other blacks that he did not file a police report. Posters to this board such as you must be thrilled and proud. The people who did this to a gay block man are no better than whites in the Deep South who lynched black men. You have become what you claim to abhor. And, oh, while w’re at it, why don’t you learn correct English grammar, since your hate postings are filled with exactly the sort of errors of our language that one would expect from KKK-equivalent pig ignorance. I will not respond to any further posts by you, as you have everything in common with the black antigay hate mongers who attacked a gay black man, I believe five against one. What courage it took for them to do that, right eric. Adios, homophobes.

First of all, I don’t live in Atlanta, and I have not attacked any gay people. So your erroneous association of me to the men who beat up the gay person is asinine. Secondly, nothing justifies your misinterpretation of African American History and culture, and you can hurl all of the insults around you want, but I still reserve the right to call your dumb a*s out. Case in point, whether or not this beating happened is irrelevant. What is relevant is your attempt to blanket the African American Community as the new KKK/n**i Party. That I will not tolerate because it means you no nothing about the hate groups or black people to make such a comparison. So please kill yourself again.

I am in shock the way people are responding to this issue with Roland Martin. All of the profanity and name calling is not needed.I am not gay, but I have no problem with gays as long as just like me you must know your bounderies. Although most humans are sensitive and look for something to argue and complain about, is this necessary to want a man to lose his job, people making commentary showing their hate for one another due to race, religion, and s****l belief. No this is all wrong. there may be some white gays or lesbians who do not like any other gay of a different ethnic background, so what do you do about that. So what I am saying unless a specific person not a group is being verbally attacked, we should learn to allow it to roll off just as water rolls off a duck’s back. All of this hate for this group or that group of humans is tearing this country apart, even the burning of our flag. Do not be afraid of some foreign country to destroy our country because we will do it ourselves.

Gay rights is a civil rights issue. Civil rights has always been a struggle against simple minded people who thought they were better than others. They impressed this hate into law. It is a so much of the same struggle. So what if you dont like gay folk Please dont be as stupid as those T Party people.. Make your arguments reality based!! WE CANNOT AFFORD TO BE AS STUPID AS THE LAST TWO POST. WE CANNOT AFFORD THE SAME SMALL MINDED HATE IN OUR COMMUNITY. READ A BOOK BEFORE YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH! The gay movement is not a civil movement! The gay agenda is solely to be accepted off of s****l preference. You cannot look at someone and tell their s****l preference (in some cases). People of color (all colors) cannot hide their physical features but anybody has the choice to show/verbalize their s****l preference. If a person chooses to expose their s****l desires even having the choice not to, when people who are categorized and punished based off of things they cannot hide or deny, should be ashamed of themselves for trying to compare and validate something they must feel might be wrong. If a person is totally confident in their actions, why would a person/persons feel the need to get support for their actions? To liken your s*x rally to a struggle that cannot be compared is cowardly. Get a real struggle other than being accepted for the type of s*x you like to have and people might advocate for you.

we need each other, but we need each other to clean up from the filthy lifestyles we’ve accepted living amongst this people.

Amen again! I saw this coming 20 years ago, and moved out of the US in 1999. Attaching the gay agenda to the civil rights movement was a way for Jesse Jackson to get more votes when he ran for president. He also swept white women under the same rug as ‘minorities’ and now both groups benefit WAY MORE from minority status financially, and now medically with HIV/AIDS than we ever will.

And while I’m at it punk a*s Tracey Morgan shouldn’t have apologized either. He empowered them and now they are targeting everyone – like they are special.

Gay people aren’t special – they are human like everyone else no more, no less. If they can’t take a joke #uck ‘em.

I’m sorry. But gay rights are human rights, just like civil rights. What Roland Martin did was wrong. Not to mention the homophobia in the black community is hurting the black community and hurting the people in it. We ignore the fact that many people within our community in history were/ are gay/bi themselves. James Baldwin, Lorraine Hansberry, Langston Hughes, Little Richard, Wanda Sykes, Bessie Smith, Billie Holiday, mabel washington, Bayard Rustin and many others.
