Jay-Z Earned $63 Million in 2010 but Only Gave 6K to Charity

The old adage says to whom much is given much is expected. Obviously, Jay-Z didn’t get the memo.

Hip-Hop mogul Jay-Z reportedly earned a whopping $63 million dollars in 2010, but only gave a tiny portion – $6,431 dollars – to his Shawn Carter Scholarship Fund.

Jay-Z’s publisher defended the rapper saying, “Jay, along with his family, provided office support, overhead support, [mother] Mrs. Gloria Carter’s 100 percent effort and time, computers, FedEx expenses, accounting, and treasury function support.”

The truth, however, is far different than the image his publicist is trying to paint. Actually, Jay-Z only gave $1,209 for office expenses, $1,401 for telephone and $4,696 in other expenses in 2010. And Jay-Z’s wife Beyonce didn’t give any money, not one cent, to his foundation, even though her earnings topped out at $87 million dollars in 2010.

The Shawn Carter Foundation’s charitable donations totaled $218,849, and Jay-Z’s donation was the smallest in the bunch.

What makes this all the more abominable is that Jay-Z often uses his charity to raise money. Just Monday night, Jay-Z performed at Carnegie Hall at a concert to benefit his charity. And in 2011, Jay-Z raised $1.5 million dollars at a benefit for his charity. So the question is, where’s the money?

So what if Jay-Z only gave that amount. It is his money. Most of these crooks you donate to shave off 99 percent for their own pockets.

    This article is a lie.
Jay-Z and Beyonce are two of thee most philanthropic celebs out there. Most of what they do isn’t “worn on their sleeves” OR is done to garner media attention. They do sooooo much work (and give abundantly) here AND in Afrika, it’ll make the Blackest Pan-Afrikan Nationalist cry.
Don’t believe this bull, Jay gives PLENTY, on the low.

What I would like to know is how many blacks does he provide employment for, in terms of all of the entertainment ventures he has going? And if he has any other type of businesses that provides jobs for other black folks? And the same goes for his wife Beyonce. And, still, they both could throw a little something over to some or one of the black colleges, which are all in need. That is after they both get through spending up millions at all of the white folks businesses that they naturally are fully supporting, day after day after day, and making them richer. — Rev. The headline vs the actual facts needs to be looked at. The writer is going for selatiousness. The charitable donations totaled 218k,for a scholarship fund that is pretty good. The fact is that he has a great vehicle in that scholarship fund to provide for its beneficiaries. If he wanted to throw an event; which even the author notes he does, then gives the proceeds to charity he can. So whats wrong with that? He pays for so much out of pocket at this point of his career to grow and sustain his business. The ROI (return on investment) of the scholarship fund is not monetary, everything else has to be for the man to sustain. Thats just common sense and I hope one day the writer is in the same position and does the same thing. cause if you dont well you will be down here with the rest of us. REALFAST.com

I really believe that the intention behind this article is to bring negative attention to Jay-Z and Beyonce because they are prominent supporters of President Obama. Why else would this make the news. It appears that YBW is always going after Obama supporters in a negative fashion. That’s sad.

People love to talk about how this is “HIS MONEY” to do with what he wants. One problem with philosophy is that MOST black people work for non blacks usually WHITES. White people used THEIR MONEY to build the companies and corporations that most of us black people work for. Why is it so wrong to ask why our black wealthy class is not investing in our poor black communities to create jobs or giving more to charity?? Charity is nothing more than a tax write off him and other wealthy individuals.

We as black people can’t afford to continue to give a free pass to our own black wealthy class but expect so much from a white wealthy class like jobs, economic investments, charity etc.

It is past the time when Black perfomers, atheletes, and millionaires STEP UP and gave more money to help their Black people around the world.

WHY haven’t they sponsered a person to get started in a business? Or, sponsered them going to college or trade school.DOING THIS COULD LEAD TO PUTTING MORE BLACKS TO WORK.
We are the lowest in World NOT having more businesses Like housing, supermarkets,Technology, etc. ASK THEM WHY THEY HAVN’T? IF THEY DON’T SUPPORT MORE THEN DON’T SUPPORT THEM!
