“My Teacher Stole My Lunch Money,” Says 2nd Grader

The mother of a second grader is suing the school for $200,000 because the teacher allegedly stole her child’s lunch money and used it to pay for her own sodas, according to court documents.

Lynsai Green sued the Baltimore School Board, the mayor and City County, and Gwynn Falls Elementary School teachers Marcelius Lockes, in City Court.

Green said she was made aware that the teacher had stolen her son’s lunch money when the lunch lady told her son to bring the money to her that he owed for lunch, even though Green had given her son sufficient monies to cover his lunch.

When Green asked her son why he didn’t have lunch money, he said that his teacher, Ms. Lockes, had been taking money from he and another student. The boy said the teacher told them that they owed her a quarter for every time they “acted up” in class, and then used the money she collected from them to buy soda.

Green says that her son, who is a special education student, takes medication for his ADHD that will make him ill if he doesn’t eat regular meals.

In addition to emotional distress, she is also charging the teacher with assault because she learned that the teacher was physically disciplining her son.
