It looks like the boycott against Evelyn Lozada on “Basketball Wives” is starting to take hold. The legendary wild woman has been getting major heat for her behavior on the show, which many claim is promoting bullying among young women. Thousands of fans have signed an online petition to have Evelyn’s new show, “Ev and Ocho” cancelled before it even begins.
Alexis M, who has organized an online campaign against the show, has been reaching out to advertisers to bring the madness to an end. She has been approaching major corporations, including GM, Burger King and others.
“I’m currently waiting on Burger King’s president to return my phone call. I sent him all the video footage of the ‘Basketball Wives’ violence,” Alexis says. “Burger King didn’t even know what ‘Basketball Wives’ is. The secretary was polite enough to view some of the video footage of the violence.”

First let’s get it straight. Evelyn was never married to a Baskeball player prior to Chad. except for an engagement that went wrong,SHE WAS A GROUPIE!! Her actions on her first date with Chad showed you tons about who she is and what she would do for attention. I don’t condone hitting/head bumping or verbal abuse to a woman but if any one who has watched that show can attest to, Evelyn doesn’t mind going in hard after any girl she feels who don’t fall in line with her way of thinking. Throwing things (mostly wine bottles), purse slapping etc Most of the time however, I noticed she left enough running room for herself to run.Only up close and personal fight she had on the show was when
Tammy took control and busted her out.

Tear “our own people” down????? Really? You claim these crakkkas in black face as our people? Don’t trip. Please believe they have no such sentiment toward you. $$ is their God. They clearly know how negative the image they portray is and how detrimental it is…THEY DON’T CARE apparently. its all about the money sun. These types are cut from the same cloth as all of those who have and would sell OUR PEOPLE out for a dollar. So why are they deserving our our support?? To argue that there are others who do things just as bad is absurd. Thats like claiming why waste time on someone slangin drugs to our people when there is somebody else doing something worse. Erruh? No they all need to be stopped. It is equally ignorant to say “just don’t watch it”. Just because you have the consciousness not to watch or allow your children to obviously doesn’t mean that others do. knowing this, it is the height of irresponsibility to attack those who would do something to remove these images .The chains we face as a people today are largely mental…and tell-lie-vision effects peoples minds. The war for the upliftment and liberation of our people has many fronts pick one and stop “tearing down our people” who have.

One of the biggest problems I have is the fact that there is no balance!! once the powers that be realized that drama and violence in reality tv got the ratings EVERYONE jumped on the train. I think that if there were options that represented the diversity in our culture and world shows like BBW and RHOA would just be another show. These shows are nearing the end of their life expectancy because it was quick money not long term money. Boycott or not these shows are done! in the meantime spend time with young people and show them the positive ways to carry themselves and communicate with others AND PLEASE STOP EXPECTING OTHERS TO DO WHAT YOU WONT!!

Hello, everyone, I work two jobs and run a business. Please tell me how does one have time to WATCH the trash on Black TV or just TV. We have to be very frank that Black artistic expression has profoundly decline in plays, drama, poetry, films, music, dance. From what I have seen among our youth, they have become for the most part, over sexed, crude and dyfunctional, from what I have seen in music videos, films, even spoken word events. Right now wehave to be very frank our comunity and people have been seduced into an imaged base expressions and thus they confuse into thinking that… what you know about the world and reality, is soley based on how you feel and what you feel alone. Right now a lot of our youth people cannot read critical material, because we don’t give standards of social inter-action.

Let me get this straight, somebody started a boycott against Ms. Lozado for her supposedly bullying ways? Well if they were watching the same show I was watching, someone needs to explain why they felt it was ok to boycott Evelyn and not include Tami Roman as well. She is just as bad if not worse than Ms. Lozado. And if were going to start boycotting ignorant, loud and bullying black woman shouldnt we add Chrissy from Love and Hip Hop to the list. This chick is always mad and always fighting some chick who she finds a reason to be mad with. SO in my opinion if youre gonna boycott someone these other women need to be on the list as well. Or maybe someone is just mad that Evelyn is attractive and has a man. Just saying.

Let me set ya straight, the BOYCOTT is for a new reality show with Evelyn & Ocho, that VH1 was considering producing & airing.
Star Jone had asked for us to BOYCOTT BBW, because of it’s violent nature towards women, and the way the bullys on the show got away with it and became the STAR-Rs! Of these shows. The women on these show who don’t advocate violence or seldom see or heard of.
And I agree STOP THE MADNESS, We need to stop the boofoonary, were these TV network, ALWAYS want to placce people of color in the STUPIOED BOOFOONARY ROLES.
I SAY WE ALL BOYCOT VH1 ALL TOGETHER!
They need to find and hire producer & actor with real talent. Instead of bullys and uneducated woman that don’t even know the definiton of WIVES!

WE MUST BE FARE HERE. WHILE I DO DISAGREE WITH EVELYN’S BAD GIRL BEHAVIOR AND WITH HER ALLOWING HER FRIEND NIA TO PHYSICALLY ASSAULT JENNIFER. SHE IS NOT ALONE WITH THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR,THERE ARE OTHER SHOWS AND ACTRESSES AND ACTORS WHO PORTRAY THE SAME DISTASTEFUL,DISRESPECTFUL AND VIOLENT CONDUCT ON TELEVISION AS WELL AS TO THE WORLD. SO LET’S NOT USE HER AS THE PUNCHING BAG GIRL, BUT USE HER AS A RALLYING CRY TO CHANGE THE IMAGE’S AND BEHAVIORS THAT SEVERELY AFFECT THE WAY OUR WOMEN ARE PORTRAYED IN THE FASHION,MOVIE,SPORT’S AND MUSIC INDUSTRY PERIOD.
MrAhmed Malik
May 2, 2012 at 4:30 pm
women in general have to understand that real or acting. there are young girls watching their bad behavior. they must be better role models period. even the first lady had to defend herself in the national media for being labeled a angry black woman. it is shows like the bad girls club, jersey shore and the basketball wives’ just to name a few, that promotes the notion of the always angry black woman or women. they owe it to our little gils to always reflect the good in women and they should always show and command respect to themselves and their way of life period. no excuses or bulls–t stories.

Really? What about Bridzillas? What about “The Bad Girl’s Club” We continue to promote a culture of rewarding bad behaviour so we cna either laugh at it or copare ourselves to it and say we’re better then they are. This is foolishness. Basketballs wives with half the women not even wives….just a piece tha is kept until the next piece comes around.

Where is the petition I will sign it.

I agree the fighting should be stopped but, when I was growing the TV was consider the idiot box and that image still remains today… NO Basketball Wives isn’t about much of nothing but guess what none of the other shows are either. Should we start a petition against nurse Jackie for abusing Drugs on TV, on then we have The Sha’s and he list goes on.. Just face it people Hollywood is no longer willing to pay the big bucks they once for an actor or an actresses so is so easy to find somebody that looking for a come up to play these parts.. But Star there is so many other fights that you could be fighting, the injustice and so many others… But this against a reality show it’s so little. Its the same fight that caused black folks to stop making movies in the 60 and 70 because everyone felt they were poor images of black folks well guess what there are more than one image that represent black folks we are not all in one bubble and God knows everything surely isn’t the most positive not saying we need to enhance the negative but we must be real… Reality is really reality now is it?

R u kidding me? Star Jones is starting a petition against Evelyn on Basketball Wives now I’m sick.
Why waste valuable so call time on such… Star if you need something to do find another job… Leave Evelyn alone!!! Did you start one against NJ HouseWives, California and list goes on and on… If you don’t like it turn off the TV… If someone is allowing their mentally challenged daughter to sit down and watch basketball wives and we should be blaming who? Get over yourself really…. Its so sad when black folks start can’t leave other people business alone. We will fight the most useless fights on the earth… If you want to do something make your fight be about something that will eventually help someone other than yourself. Leave this nonsense alone.. If you don’t like use your options they are available… One turn off the tv, two change the channel. three do something constructive.

Seriously? Come on y’all.. It’s out of control and y’all know it. Those who saying Evelyn isn’t black, what about Tammy? It’s a mess. The other show love and Basketball, yuck! It seems like all these reality tv with our women feel like they have to fight to gain recognition. I’m not saying that other women of different race don’t act a fool but to be honest I could careless about them. We don’t have to tear down ourselves because we let others do it.

I can’t understand how any person over the age of 25 can forget how televison has shaped the attitudes of the world about how black people are in the united states. from black face to pimps to hoodulums, to gangmembers to drug addicks to ignorant bafoons, to not being smart enough to be a ceo of a business, to all black women are s***s, to all black men are useless, drug addicted, lazy, non partenal to their families, firt to die in a movie or tv show I could go on but you get the picture. The picture is always on tv where we are eager to provide entertainment for the inihilation of the black man woman and child. As these people that are devoid of any attachment to the integrity of black people and think that your free, think again, thank god for spike lee, sidney portia and others that refused to project a image of African Americans that does show who we really are as a race of people. how long will we evaluate a chance for white producers to get rich from the disfunctional attitudes of some of us, when we know how gullable some of us are, that’s how the birth of gold teeth and baggy saggy pants below your but was started, it was on television. my wish is that black people will begin to watch tv shows that will reveal truth about how this country works and how we can enhance the quality of our lives, and make our society one of discipline and death and violence.. we still hate ourselves because that freedom that some think they have usually leads to a visit to see a loved one at a jail or prison. Travon is dead today not just because he was black, but because this country sent a message a long time ago and a lot of black peole embrased a fact that the life of a black man woman or child is worthless, and tv shows us daily how we got to that point. I wonder what those basketball players really saw in these women ? maybe as the temptations once sang that beauty really is only skin deep, but respect goes all the way to the bone.

As a woman, I don’t consider Evelyn one of us. She behaved like a wild animal and it sends a bad message to our girls that a woman is expected to behave like that. Jumping on a table, slapping someonw in the face, SERIOUSLY??? The show should be off the air. As for the Kardashians, they are famous for being themselves. They haven’t hurt anyone. As for their reputations, its all off-camera.

I think we should speak to Shaunie Oneill she is one of the producers and show some positive behaivor. They do some good things fundraising Shaunie and Tami paid a young girls college education. Show some of the things they do and tell Evelyn to tone down the fighting get her therapy she is angry about something. Do not start the boycott why did star jones not boycott Kardasian with the s****l & crazy image young people and Jersey Shore with Snooki if your going after shows don’t just go after the After american show. Evelyn has Black in her so she is a Afro latino

Awesome comments, Tina Jackson, yes all reality shows are disgusting and pretty much show the worst of humans, yet as a black woman I am more concerned with the ones that influence my village, young African American girls who see the bling and money and think this is the behavior or attitude to have!! Give me a reality show on black doctors, professors, attorneys, etc. African Americans are doing positive things in our communities and that’s what I want my kids to see, We have a Dr. Oz out there, ain’t nothing special about being a bbw. How about a . Wife of a doctor, bus driver, lawyer, Pastor, social activist, therapist, or holding one of these professions yourself. I don’t allow my children to watch that c**p period!

May 2, 2012 at 11:39 am
Why are people allowing their YOUNG girls to watch this show? If you are so concerned about the impact that it has on our young women…turn the channel. I am so tired of people making this c**p relevant. Yes, Evelyn is the reported “wild woman” on Basketball Wives but people should see this for what it is intended to be “bad” entertainment. I would never allow my child, who by the way does not pay the cable bill, to watch this stuff. I am sure their are much more worthy causes to back and I don’t see a petition circulating to ban The Bad Girls Club which is bullying at its low point. Find a life, people.
Gloria Payton
May 2, 2012 at 11:14 pm
@bkjoy I agree with you,Bad Girls Club should be banned as well. It promotes violence, drinking, promicuity as well vulgarity. It is embarrassing that in this society that we not only condone this behavior we sensationalize it,we choose sides and rally poor ethics and lack of integrity. I am all for a boycotting the oxygen network or any other network that persist in promoting bad behavior.

Putting a band-aid on the end result of the problem doesn’t make the problem go away. If BBW is cancelled or the new show is gone before it even airs what’s stopping these people who have concocted this ‘successful’ formula from just simply firing all these women involved and getting a new fresh crop of grown women who are more than happy to make a fool of themselves on TV for a paycheck? Nothing. Who owns VH1 and Viacom? Does that person really give a d**n about opinions or just ratings? Not to mention, there is a reason these show’s are on the air… hello? Some, women love this stuff and think this is an accurate portrayal of how women should act and respond in situations. Some people just have boring routine lives and need something to talk and gossip about. Just because Star Jones doesn’t like it. That doesn’t mean women who don’t have a media voice don’t. With or without Ms. Jones the show will be cancelled if no one watched it. Are we suggesting that Ms. Jones should be able to dictate what other people choose to watch or not? Does Star Jones own her own broadcasting company? I’m not saying she isn’t right. I’m just saying that in a free society, you have a choice between watching Masterpiece Theater or some ghetto trash’ that happened to open their legs for some dude with a 6 year career playing sports. Last time I checked VH1 is on basic cable which means you pay for it. Star Jones or anyone else shouldn’t be telling people what they can and can’t pay to watch. Maybe if this was on public regular tv she might have a cause. I agree with her about the show. But, I disagree with her about telling someone to take something off cable that people pay for. That is a little too elitist for my taste. Oh, and I have never watched an episode of any of this garbage, but if you are paying for it. It’s none of my business what you watch in the privacy of your own home. Taking this garbage off the air isn’t going to cure bad parenting either. If you sucked as a parent to let your daughter watch this mess while it was on, nothing is going to change just because it isn’t.

To hear the young ladies at a center I work for cheer Eve on with that nonsense angered me!! Boycotting this show is silly! BBW is not a show for teaching anyone how a lady should behave neither does it represent black women or black people! If you dont like it,dont watch it! Im not crazy about Evelyn lozada or any of the others who behave bad,its for entertainment.the person who is organizing a petition drive should do it for the demonic and very violent movies that are out. There are lots of occultic type movies too. Im not going to waste my time with boycotting this show, there are more serious and realistic things in this life than a tv show.

All those who are complaining about why the person who started this “Ev and Ocho” boycott did not start another you deem more important should ask yourself why You did nt start your boycott you dem more important. Oh, yea I gt it- you guys are te oe who join the mouth movement when someone else goes for a cause they believe in.
If you are inspired, then start the other boycotts, but at least for once in your life think outside of yourselves.
Re: Tear down our own comment: are you relly serious, because if you are, then there lies the problem! These shows as well as these celebrities shaking their butts, popping out babies out of wedlock, cursing each other out, sleeping around with guys just because they can getbthem expensive clothes to put put on their classless bodies, is not representative of the average intelligent women who cares about people, throw a church scene in one of these “trashtastic ” bringing down a people should be called non- reality shows and you have another Tyler Perry hit! lol
I’m glad this lady decided to start this boycott as too many times people thinknthey have to support tis behavior as if it is turning your back on someone ; on the contrary, it is far worse to turn your back on many impressionable young ladies who think this is the way to behave. No one pays attention to the shows title ” Basketball Wives” and not only is the basketball missing, but the men who actually play the spirt are missing in these women life. If young girls could get from this show, putting on expensive clothing and jewelry, dining in expensive resteraunts, living in exclusive condos or housing areas does to give you happiness, or class and makes you depend on bafoonery then let the shows stay on! lol

May 2, 2012 at 4:27 pm
Thank you Poetee. Not watching or changing the channel is not the way to combat this poison. Ignoring a problem does not make it go away. If you think young girls or not-so-young girls are not being influenced by this nonsense then you are also part of the problem. Running your mouth about who shoud be doing what and what cause needs more attention is another piece of this problem. What are YOU doing about the negative images of black women? It must be nice to sit back and run your mouth against the people actively trying to make a difference. In the black community, it only TAKES ONE black fool to equal all of us and you know that’s how we are looked at! I don’t care if Evelyn is not black, that’s no excuse. How some of you are rationalizing this is just amazing to me. Some people are just for sale I guess. We need more Michelle Obama types on television, not the same bottle throwing-drink tossing-neck cranking-name calling- swearing-materialistic-jealous-bitter-mean-bullying-wannabes!

It’s really interesting that everyone who is commenting about the show watches the show. Those of us who don’t watch aren’t ignoring the so-called problem we just have better things to do with our time. I don’t watch t.v and don’t care what’s on it. If you and everyone else would spend your time wisely those characters would be unfamiliar to you. The Bible warns us to be careful as to how we spend our time and what we let in our spirit but I guess you were too busy watching tv to read it.

Your tv turns on, off and switches channels-get a new cause. PROGRESS, PROGRESS, PROGRESS in the making to s****h this junk off the air and replace it with a show that’s worthwhile. And every last one of them hate the fact that LaLa’s reality show is the exact opposite and that LaLa is so much more classier, a lady and talented than either one of the “Divorced Hoodwives”. All those Reality shows are ridiculous! So to focus on Basketball wives and not the other programs s typical of our communities and our lack of support for each other. Basketball wives etc. Shouldn’t be watched by young girls. The focus should be on why parents are allowing them to watch the program. Until education occurs; boycotting will dismantle the immediate problem: yet will not cure the root of the problem.
Hopefully the young girls aren’t reading the “Evelyn like” comments on here. It’s okay to disagree yet disrespecting individuals with your comments; leaves much to be desired. The only attitude being displayed is yours. Have a goodnight Tina.
