A mother was concerned about her son being a victim of bullies. So, rather than waiting for school officials to protect her child or letting the chips fall where they may, the mom took the matter into her own hands. She gave her son a stun gun.
As you can imagine, this created quite the controversy, and the mom’s decision to protect her child has now made national headlines.
Newsone.com tells the story:
“Chelisa Grimes gave her gay son, Darnell “Dynasty” Young, a stun gun to protect himself against bullies, after she lost faith that officials at Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis would protect him, CNN reports.
The 17-year-old high school student says be took the stun gun to school because he didn’t feel safe. On April 16, six students surrounded Young, taunting him and pelting him with homophobic insults. He then took out the gun and fired it, sending off an electric shock. The would-be bullies were abated. Young’s mom says she doesn’t regret her decision of giving her son a stun gun, and, in fact, would make the same decision again. However, her son is now facing expulsion.”

To all those posters who think this mom shouldn’t LET her son be gay, u all sound like a bunch of idiots! That is akin to saying she shouldn’t LET her son be a male. Or be black. Or be 5’10″ tall. Or WHATEVER HE IS!!!! s****l orientation is NOT A CHOICE!!! If ur a male who likes men, God made u that way!!! It’s no different than men who love women, or vice versa, with one exception: Gay ppl don’t try to regulate wht goes on in the bedrooms of straight ppl! Take a lesson and MIND UR BUSINESS, then this boy’s s****l preference won’t be used as justification to torment, bully, or harm him in any way. Having said that, I advocate his having any available resource to protect himself. Stun gun, slingshot, pepper spray, h**l, give him a sock full of nickels if it keeps him from being the next Matthew Shepard! For all u Bible Thumpers, that’s the young man who was tortured & MURDERED because some cretins with a mindset similar to urs thought his being gay forfeited his right to life. Hypocrites like Mary Walker & Herman Hawkins Jr. use the Bible in bits & pieces to justify their narrow-minded way of thinking. What about the verse sayn JUDGE NOT, LEST YE BE JUDGED?! Or LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE?! Look in ur own mirror, jugde ur OWN sins (cursing, s*x out of wedlock, drinking, etc…) before u condemn others!

I may understand the fears of this woman but I have a deeper question. If she had any understanding of GOD how could she allow her son to become gay. We have allowed homosexuality to become a movement in this country and the family, especially the black family, has paid a dear price. Mary Walker you are right. Give the child a Bible so he can grow up properly.

I think that is the dumbest way to solve the problem. Teaching our children to use violence to control another person’s behavior is foolish. That mentality is why so many of our children are in hospitals and cemeteries. She lets the boy “dress like a girl” and carry a weapon. Seriously?
First teach him his sexuality is personal and private. Second teach him that we all have to dress a certain way in society. Just like the people who get kicked out of court for wearing inappropriate clothes we need to be mindful of our appearance. There are plenty of gay men that don’t dress like Ms. Jay or Rupaul. Finally She needs to teach him that he needs to find his own way of dealing with the bullies. If she wants to hit those boys with a stun gun then SHE should be the one to do it. We are responsible for our own actions.
If he hurts one of those kids with that stun gun it’s not their fault because they bullied him. He made the decision and his mother armed him. Self-defense is only applicable in equal force situations. Armed response to an unarmed attack usually isn’t treated as self defense.

Gay, straight, nerdy or just plain funny looking, kids should be able to go to school without having to worry about being bullied. My sons get teased for being smart and reading, so I can only imagine the grief a gay teen would experience. It is a shame that this mother had to resort to giving her son a stun gun.

This mother wants to protect her son from bullies, and she has to go aganist the rules of law to do it this young man is scared to death,i wish these kids would not fight like this.

On the 1 hand, using violence (and that’s what you’re doing when you give someone a weapon: license & approval to commit violent acts) only compounds the problem. What if they decide they’ll bring more people or use a gun? On the other hand, a person has the right to protect his own well-being & if they’re coming in numbers, he’s gotta fend for himself. More than anything, the people in that community need to be educated about letting bygones be. Stop sending your kids to churches that feature gaybashing ministers. Punish your kids if they bully. That’s the key.
