A New York sportswriter is in hot water after writing that the Brooklyn Nets should change their name to the “New York N——s” because they are co-owned by Jay-Z.
Phil Mushnick, who writes for the New York Post, has apparently been a long-time critic of the rapper’s role in the franchise. In a Friday column, he trashed Jay-Z’s choice for the team’s new uniforms:
As long as the Nets are allowing Jay-Z to call their marketing shots — what a shock that he chose black and white as the new team colors to stress, as the Nets explained, their new “urban” home — why not have him apply the full Jay-Z treatment?
Why the Brooklyn Nets when they can be the New York N——s? The cheerleaders could be the Brooklyn B—-hes or Hoes. Team logo? A 9 mm with hollow-tip shell casings strewn beneath. Wanna be Jay-Z hip? Then go all the way!

Not “n****s”, “n*****s”! And if you don’t know the difference, therein lies the problem!

The “only we can use that word, because of its us” argument loses credibility by the passing moment. History has shown it to be a devisive, insult toward blacks, yet we call it “good” when we refer to ourselves, and “BAD” and “RACIST” when others refer to us.
If we essentially acknowledge that a word is BAD and RACIST in undertone 87% of the time it is used, then we are, by clinging to such a deragoatory demeaning form of self reference, displaying our own ignorance and foolish stupidity to the point that we are ultimately proving to the society-at-large that we are worthy of such an ugly title – and the general lack of respect that goes with it.
Abolish the word from the english dictionary, and popular use – urban dialect and use included

The LGBT community is fighting for something it seems the black community has long gave up – it’s self respect. Perhaps the black community is “all about the benjamins” – though statistically (adjust for inflation) we are poorer now than we have been in 50 years.

If you don’t care to hear the words don’t use them. Check your friends when they use them.
Back in the day we said we used it as a term of endearment to take the pain and hurt out of the words.
People who don’t look like you and I will stop when we stop using the words.
It can’t be racist as long as it’s use in every day conversation.

Yes, there will be the normal outrage from the usual folks. But why get upset this with sports writer, Jay-Z has been calling Black men “n—–s and Black women h–s for decades now, where was the outrage then. We can’t have it both ways. Either we start checking our friends, relatives and associates, for their use of the word, or we should just STFU. We don’t have ownership of a word that was meant to demean, disrespect and dehumanize us. Jay-Z has made millions using these words and now that he has a daughter, he’s going to stop using the word b***h. GMAFB Respect begins at home and don’t forget that.

Just another jealous and entitled white boy. There is a white supremist base to our culture, all things of anglo-saxon/european/western “civilization” is superior to all other cultures and people. The trick that thinking puts a white supremist in is this question and it makes them mad as h**l. If I’m superior to them why are they doing so much better than me? That white supremist mindset gives them a sense of entitlement and they feel that the person of color that achieves success took something that belongs to them. For people of color success and excellence is the greatest of weapons. Jay-Z is an owner. What does he own? He should be happy Jay-Z gave him something to write about.

Wait folks isn’t hiphop about N***gas, bit***ches and who**res. Doesn’t jz and his co-rappers/hiphoppsters refer to Africa Americans as such in his music… So ehhhhh, am I’m missing something signifigant here – or does it depend on who is calling AfricanAmericansN**gas, etc…?

@Udosed What you’re missing is this guy is a sports journalist not a entertainer who has more leeway in what he’s allowed to say. I’m no fan of rap or hip hop. I don’t agree with the misogynist and bigoted name calling in rap. But by the same token I also don’t agree with it in the Hollywood film and TV industry dominated by white ethnics (Jews). No one is painting white ethnics of these industry’s with the same brush and neither should we with black artist.

The world would be a much better place if neither black or whites used the word in a negative manner. Think of the heirs of our great country…….The Children! Be an example, not a damper. God bless you all. And God Bless America.

Did I hear someone state that we are now living in a post- racial society ? RACISM IS ALIVE, THRIVING, AND WELL. All one has to do is take a VERY CLOSE LOOK at the unemployment rate for BLACK PEOPLE in AMERICA …especially our MEN
