Rep. Allen West Tells Conservatives to “be Like Sharks That Smell Blood and Attack”

Rep. Allen West continued his divisive rhetoric while speaking to a group of conservatives at a Hyatt Regency.

“This is a moral discussion we’ve having in this country, because we‘re talking about what we’re going to leave for our children and grandchildren,” West said. ”I feel sorry for them because for whatever reason they don’t know the essence of the greatness of the United States of America.”

In his discussion, West tossed the crowd a big chunk of red meat, of the same variety that continues to cause such deep divisions in this country. Instead of encouraging conservatives in the crowd to come together with those on the other side of the aisle to solve America’s problem, West encouraged them to reenact Jaws: “You must be like sharks that smell blood in the water and you must attack,” he told the audience. “Ladies and gentlemen, you don’t win on defense. You win on offense.”

As usual, West was dismissive of people who disagreed with him and exalted those who share his views. As always, West mistakes groupthink for sober intellectualism.
