A 7 year old Chicago girl was gunned down while selling lemonade outside her home with her mother. Police are now searching for two
men who opened fire at a group of people and killed 7 year old Heaven Sutton.
Heaven was reportedly sometimes scared in the neighborhood she and her mother had moved six months earlier due to the violence, but the girl was looking forward to an upcoming trip to Disney World next month. She had just gotten her hair done for the trip Wednesday.
Pastors in the area are imploring citizens to turn in the person who murdered the 7 year old.
Police Supt. Garry McCarthy said he has “incredibly strong leads on this case.”

We have a black man as the head of the Dept of Justice, while white children are being aggresively protected from bullies, and black children are murdered with no protection.
While this same man serves, white girls who agree to have s*x with grown men are protected(To Catch A Predator)and are seeing the men jailed, and black boys who are lured into lives of crime, get no protection. Why Eric Holder, Black Attorney General??? Why?

You know what? I am no longer getting sad when a tragedy like this happens. As Black people we allow this foolishness. I wish we had the leaders from the 1960s & 1970s where Black people had pride about themselves.
The self hatred among my people is sickening! All we do is worry about Lebron’s stats and how much money Jay-Z and Lil Wayne have; and our kids are dying everyday on the streets!
Black people need to stand up and stop worshiping idol gods (i.e Lil Wayne, Diddy, Lebron, Jay-Z and others) and take our communities back!

When people leave the comfort of their home and go out into the community they carry with them what they have been taught, their informal education. When will we reject their informal education? Can parents defend their children who exhibit anti-people characteristics? That is what they claim in many cases-MY CHILD. Some person child shot this child and they learned how to interact with other human beings at home.

[On Tuesday, Chicago Police came to Jackson Park armed with violence interrupters, who are frequently former gang members with rap sheets. Their mission is to diffuse tensions before they turn violent.
CeaseFire has had significant success, but police have kept the group and its former felons at arm's length -- until now.
"In this time, in this climate, with the amount of bodies from homicides, shootings, that continue to add up that may make this city seem as though it's not safe," said Chicago Police 1st Deputy Superintendent Al Wysinger. "If there were differences in the past, they have to go out the window."
For the first time the city will give CeaseFire $1 million to send 40 violence interrupters into two high-crime districts. One of those districts is near Jackson Park, where murders are up this year 82 percent.]

My God! Who could do such an act! What has our society reduced itself to? We are talking about a “baby” being gunned downed like an animial! We, our society, have and continue to fail and take care of our babies, our children! After reading this, and many other similar articles, I sit and cry for our babies–they depend on us for safety. Yet, we as a society have and continue to fail to take care of our most dependent and vulnerable—our children! This is a societal disgrace! As an adult, I do not want to know what it feels like to be “shot”. My God, what do you think a baby feels like being “shot”. I am crying and hurting for this baby and othera who are forced into this predicament.

Every time I hear a story like this I just want to cringe!This story is no different than the little boy killed down the street from my aunts house killed by a gangsters bullet wearing his superman outfit getting ready for a party,the other little boy killed a couple of days ago right down the street from my house by another gangster’s bullet while his father was carrying him along with the many countless of other innocent children who are killed by the violence.Until the weapons are put down and those caught are given harsh sentences the killing is going to continue and continue and continue.This could have been anybody’s child just being a kid selling lemonade in a yard and that is the sad part.This little girl lost her life just being a kid.She wasn’t in the wrong place.She was in the right place!

Everything in the USA has come to be about prejudice against a persons color or how much money you ain’t got. Sickening! First I want to say all I see in this and like situations is PEOPLE KILLING PEOPLE. Those of us who have our share of money spend it stupidly on our children (buying the best of everything for them). Then when they are grown they still want what they want right now and go steal kill and rob for it. For generations now we have torn the family structure to pieces. A single family today usually include at least 3 baby daddies and the mamma married to neither; and this is not limited to black people. The mess they call songs is nothing but instructions on bad bad bad behavior. I listen every day to this person or that going on and on about how to fix this…………guess what too late I for one don’t think it can be fixed. And at least this little girl caught a stray bullet and was not tortured by one of the many pedophiles walking among us. R.I.P. Sweet Heaven ………..no longer a part of this disgusting world.

There is SO much that is wrong about this innocent being rubbed out. My heart goes out to her family. I hope the next “wrong” thing that happens around this will not be that “don’t snitch” BS. Please, please, please. I know I don’t live in the mix right now. But we MUST take the “bull’s eye” off the backs of our children and take a stand for our children.
Derrick, you are so right on time with the “mentoring” issue. And that includes ‘peer’ mentoring. There are so many issues at hand here. Fear, poverty, no conflict res skills, – h**l, the lack of support in USING any other conflict resolution skills besides violence – rites of passages, role models, sexism that effects them as homophobia (the rigid socialization of young men in our community), that forces them to be seen as “my little man” instead of being allowed to have a childhood.
Being made to feel that only “punks” ‘smile’? The most basic form of communication there is…a smile. One of the most beautiful forms of communication there is. Just on a physiological (sp) level that’s gotta f*&# a person up.

The President of the United States has the POWER TO DECLARE WAR at his fingertips. He can stop the war on Chicago’s poor black community whenever he is ready through the national guard, or any of the other armed forces available at his fingertip. People in Chicago should be asking themselves why Trayvon of Florida is more important than their babies. Could it be that uppity negroes who are only one generation out of the ghetto consider themselves something special and only they deserve protection under the law.
Well, at the rate that they are being taken down through failing careers, failure to pay taxes and bad investments, we can expect for all the uppity negroes to be right back in the ghetto soon.
If that oprah winfrey has $2 billion of affirmative action money, like they claim, she could easily lift every black american out of poverty with a $1 million bequest. That would be enough to provide reparations for all of us. And she’d still be super rich.

Picture the black community as the patient and this senseless crime and violence is cancer. It’s evident that chemo hasn’t worked, neither has a change in diet or exercise. To save the patient we must perform surgery. We must remove and destroy the cancer in order to save the surrounding viable tissue. This cancer maybe your son, daughter, cousin, brother or sister and in some cases your mon or dad. But, if they are the cancer that is causing the death of the black community they must be destroyed. I realize the previous statement is hard for black folks to accept. However, if we are serious about saving the black community something drastic has to take place.

I mean, just look at how they have attacked the humanity of President Barak Obama and his wife and children – Do you think they cared about what God thought? @Teri, There is no doubt that this is the origin of this cancer but now it is time to root it out of our community’s body! It was most definitely a beautiful thing that the brothas in the Stones and Panthers of the 60′s were creating and I have no doubt that some if not all of these little murders today are unwittingly on a government payroll, just as drugs and guns in our community was supplied by CIA. But that is what makes this a very sensitive fix. These are gangs, armys actually! Do we as a community call for the National Guard, which is predominantly white…? How do they distinguish the righteous brothas from the cancerous brothas…THEY DON’T! Or do the righteous brothas in our communities band together like Firemen and send units from various cities to handle this…? Something has to be done NOW! @Milesm we have to be very careful as we seek solutions to these problems. The answer is not to erect a gang to kill our children. I have no doubt the crakkkas would love that. I introduced the history of the BPP in chicago not just to explain the origin of the negative proliferation of gangs but to highlight the solution. Chairman Fred and the BPP had the answer. Organization and political education. there is enough blame to go around. Are we not to blame for not picking up Fred Hampton’s and other freedom fighters torch and continuing the fight? If we did not continue that fight and show our children the way how can you now blame them so singularly? If we were fish in a fish tank and we knew the water in the tank was making some of us sick what sense would it make to kill the sick among us? The solution is to change …clean the water. If after we have worked and cleaned the water…ie the community up some of us persist in behaving in a sick manner then…..but our enemies are not our brothers flesh of our flesh…our enemy is this system and its institutions of racism.

No gang bangers no need for the gang task force
No murders no need for so many homicide detectives

So sad to hear. My condolences….. On the other side, much needs to be done to fix this problem not only nationally but internationally. Unfortunately, finding ways to blame ‘some white man or system’ isn’t one of them. Think about it. Negroes pulling the trigger is caused by some white society on the other side of town? Come on. My sisier is dead as a result of black on black crime. We have to face our own demons and deal with them.

What the h**l is going on in Chicago? Where is Rahm Emanuel? He wanted the job as mayor and used his ties to the president to take it, so he needed to get on top of this yesterday! He has enormous access to power and resources, as well as to the greatest minds in the nation. The crime in Chicago is out of control and I don’t hear him saying anything. This is unacceptable. The least he and the Mayor of Philadelphia can do is call a regional summit of mayors and construct a plan. Also, parents, get on your jobs. Patrol your own communities if you have to. Partner with the Nation of Islam’s FOI, Jim Brown’s AmerIcan, the Guardian Angels, police unions, peace advocates, social justice leagues, churches and anyone else you can to put a stop to the crime in your communities. Where the h**l is Al Sharpton and Micheal Baison and their marches. These are black vigalantes, but vigalantes none the less. The lives of innocent Black children do matter!! Our community needs to get up off its a– and draw a clear line in the sand. We refuse to keep losing the children who do want something out of life and running to save those who keep waisting their chances. These occurances do not have to continue to happen.

Rahm has been talking about violence. Every mayor Chicago has had has talked about violence for years.
I’m going to have to agree with Terri on this one. When there are no jobs, there is rampant poverty and the school system is under performing (with less than half the kids graduating), what do we think will happen? We already know Chicago is a gentrified, racist city. Historically it’s been that way for a long time.
Where these murders are occurring just so happen to be in some of the poorest communities in the country. Only inner cities in Detroit are worse in terms poverty and unemployment among blacks. if anyone examines the data. This is a collective failure by everyone in the city from individual communities to City Hall (which just so happens to be the most corrupt local government in the country).
Like I told someone yesterday, you don’t see violence like this where the schools are great, there is little poverty and the majority of people have access to real jobs.

I agree with most of what you stated DJ, but I would place much greater responsibility on the parents who have raised these young males who are killing each other and young innocents. After the parents, I would have to ask where are the ‘men’ in the communities where this violence is occurring? By doing nothing, aren’t they abnegating their roles as protectors of their communities?
When such egregious violence occurs in black communities, I don’t know how many times I’ve heard people, almost reflexively, call for the intervention of Al Sharpton. I consider that a cop out, because Al Sharpton cannot intervene in every situation where there is a killing of a black child in the US.
Rather, I would encourage those of us who know more to do more to organize our neighbors and communities. That’s what I have done, and the results are that the people in my charge can now live without fear of drug dealers and violence.
Take responsibility for where you live, and show some courage and leadership! Don’t wait for Al Sharpton, Michael Baisen, nor any other celebrity to do the job that we the people who live in these communities must do.

…these are all valid points but I believe its time we really get past the parents, because a lot of the parents, when you pull back the cover, are in dire need of help themselves. When you see the vicious cycle you understand what happened to the fruit that fell not far from the tree. The parents are in need of even more therapy and a transformative shift to change the whole paradigm. We know that a systemic cycle of engaging in low self esteem programming often takes place in many poverty stricken communities and associated ideas pass on from one generation to the child. This can only be broken when those who are fulfilling the prophecy understand what has happened to them under a system of white supremacy. We need to seriously organize community involvement at the level of those needs so that the child and indeed the parent together can break out of their mental and pyschological enslavement. Educate them, do not blame them as Bill Cosby does; they are also innocent bystanders to a powerfully racist system of denigrating Black human life.

The blood of this precious child is on the hands of this vicious system. It is no coincidence that this happened in chicago the city where murderous pigs killed Fred Hampton, chairman of the Black Panther Party, as he slept with his pregnant wife. Chairman Fred was a brilliant young organizer who was in the process of politically educating and organizing chicago’s largest street gang, the Black Stone Rangers, into a positive force in the community. The u.s. government through the fbi cointelpro and local chicago pigs used every dirty trick in their book to stop the merger of the BPP and Rangers. The BPP in chicago by this time had erected free health clinics, freedom schools, free breakfast programs and food drives for the poor. They deliberately destroyed that positive force in our community. And deliberately left unpoliticized, destructive gangs in place. How are we to believe these pigs could completely destroy the BPP but can do nothing about these backward gangs reeking havoc in out community? Just in case some of you think I’m reaching blaming the death of this innocent angel on something that happened on 12/4/1969 – T- Rodgers who went on to establish the Blood street gang was a Stone Ranger at that time. His family moved from chicago to LA where the first Blood set was established. Know your history family…know your enemy!

There are some good, proactive measures suggested here. Hope all who are concerned about the death of this precious child and others like her, will hear your plea and take action! We cannot rely sole upon politicians and law enforcement to police our communities AFTER THE FACT. These murders are preventable. It may take a generation or two–let’s hope not–to restore the greater respect for ALL life that we once had in our communities but it CAN be done. I AM REMINDED that a man and others like him once Had A Dream. Let us not let that dream die. Let’s have that dream everyday & every night, & let us make it a REALITY. The POWER is in OUR hands.

When I saw this on the news Thursday, I happened to be sitting in a doctor’s office. When the news reporter said “7 year old girl killed in her front yard” I watched the lady sitting there with me hurry and look at the tv. Once she saw the picture of the little black girl, I watched her breathe a sigh of relief,return to her text like it wasn’t news anymore. The concern was no longer on her face. This really p****d me off!
I didn’t even know the child but my heart was aching I was almost in tears, I not only wanted to cry for her but for my people. Come on guys! your stray bullets are killing our babies. You’re hurting no one but your own race. This woman sitting there was proof that no one outside of our communities care if you kill each other or the babies. IF YOU FEEL THE ONLY WAY TO GET YOUR POINT ACROSS IS VIOLENCE THEN BY ALL MEANS USE YOUR HANDS, PUT DOWN THE WEAPONS AT LEAST THE BABIES WOULD BE SAFE FROM YOUR STAY BULLETS. You raise some valid points, but until the community at large can overcome the “element of fear” (not to be confused with sacrificing safety), these young men have to have an outlet in terms of community support and local government involvement to address the “economic” and “educational” shortfalls. Racial marginalization and spatial segregation is the crime being committed. What we are witnessing is a by-product, NOT THE PROBLEM!!

You only have to look through this very blog to see examples of young people in the very same living situations or worse that are achieving great things. When caught..speedy trial , mental evaluation and all that stuff.Then..if found guilty..send to prison for life but put word out..early release for the first prisoner that beats them to death.

…I hear you but Black on Black crime has been around for a LONG time now and we find ourselves in an ever looping tragedy of reoccurences over the plight of this old problem. And we all know why this is happening and that the time is long over due for us to build and replace negative structures with new ones; we need a GET OUT TO Black Male Rites of Passage Programs the way we need TO GET OUT to vote in the election in order to make extreme changes to extreme conditions. Black men need to turn to each other to initiate community service and programs for what is now an epidemic of young Black men engaging in crime for lack of rolemodel reinforcement from viable Black male examples. Gangsta rappers have become a rolemodel to many urban youth; it is also a tool that reinforces negative stereotypes of Black men and people to which very little is being done to address. We fight against powerful media images and obscene language permitted to flood the ear of our youth and they can’t build prisons fast enough.

Post like yours is the reason we have this type of violence in our communities. You see Caucasians as the reason for all of our ills. That’s not true. Some of us have not succeeded because of having babies before finishing high school and getting no help from the dad. Welfare isn’t conducive to being successful in life, it actually keeps you from succeeding unless you’re really determined and strong. We are here because rather than work some young people everything “NOW”. They are impatient and can’t wait to work and earn what they want when they sell drugs, rob people, and get immediate gradification. You’re right about them being scared little boys. If they did not have gun they would lose a lot of fist fights. We need to fix the problem by admitting our policy of not snitching enables these people to operate in our communities and not other places. You see we are the one talking about not snitching not Caucasians. As long as that supidity is upheld in the hood their will be serious violence there and no one will be safe. No snitching=serious violence!

In America, Jim Crow laws were instituted right after blacks earned their freedom through the Civil war in 1868 and it lasted through 1965. Jim Crow laws made it legal for whites to discriminate on the basis of skin color…this is what lead to blacks leaving the south in droves during the 1940s, in search of opportunities in the North, the same way slaves ran North in search of freedom. In the 1940s, many blacks left the south because of lynchings, joblessness, and other human assaults equated to their humanity. As Blacks left in droves, the Federal government created a program called “Rampant Ghettoization” designed to reduce the economic leverage against large numbers of blacks seeking housing, jobs, and a better way of life. It was a racist policy to make sure such numbers would not succeed in the North as well as the South. So do you understand the system? The system, like the corporate mongers of greed today, is psychopathic and run by White people in power who are hateful and greedy. Blacks leaving the South found that their conditions were met with the same systemic power of maintaining the white status quo – white supremacy – racism and racial politics. While some of us succeeded, we cannot ignore the many who did not, which was the intent of the program and the result of ghettoization throughout America. This is not something that blacks created. Blacks sought survival and accepted what they could like a homeless man or woman in the street. If you do not see that the same system in the south organized the north you will forever miss the historical mark. There is blame and an inordinate amount of it is squarely on the shoulders of a system of white racial policy and legislation. Even whites are speaking up and writing about this system as inherently racist and evil by design and how it will continue as long as we as a people, Black and White, stay confused and in denial. Today, our democracy is threatened…and isn’t this why we have to OCCUPY? Numbers of people find that corporate takeover is eroding civil rights and democracy; and with black men, it is business as usual; they are shot and killed in police profiling and police abuse casis, they are incarcerated in massive numbers, and the list goes on. It is all stemming from the mother SYSTEM of WHITE Supremacy, like cancer growing cells. Yes, Blacks have to understand this political threat and make serious changes in order to checkmate the king. Ther is blame and is responsibility.

In my view, blaming all this on outsiders entails not taking responsibility for the situation. Of course, the past abuses by Caucasians contributed to this, but they did not make those men choose to shoot at each other or pull the trigger. That was their choice. That wasn’t the choice of a Chinese American or Caucasian. It was the choice of some black youth to do so. And Derrik mentioned they don’t have the guts to shoot at Caucasians. That’s a ridiculous comment. It’s as if he thinks that shooting at other human beings who happen to be Caucasian is no problem. It’s too bad people can’t take the law into their own hands and overpower the gangsters. Maybe they could find a way if the police and government won’t stop this. I feel horrible for the parents of the child.

instead of blaming both VICTIM CHILDREN (the child that died and the child that shot the gun), you should be learning about the Fast and Furious program that put 250,000 guns, in the hands of mexican drug gangs, who in turn, passed them on to black boys in our inner city, with a NO SNITCH OR YOU WILL BE BEHEADED with a dull blade order. these boy children deserve more sympathy than the children they are ordered to murder. black women are going to have to demand the truth about why their children are being murdered. sorry black men from the top to the bottom will do nothing that will put them at risk of getting their paychecks cut. nothing!
