Strong Increase in the Number of African Americans Getting Home Schooled

With growing concern about the quality of public schools and what they do to our kids.  More and more African Americans are turning to homeschooling for their kids.  Parents who educate their own children are able to then ensure that they learn what is necessary, in a good environment and with an adequate level of quality.  YourBlackBloggers.net discusses:

African Americans are the fastest growing group of home-schooling parents, according to the the department of Education.

The National Home Education Research Institute reports that the total number of kids being home-schooled has more than doubled since 1999 to more than two million and over 220,000 of those students are African-American.

I agree with the idea of home schooling. It is also a great opportunity to teach the truth about Black history that public schools won’t discuss. There are also organized home schools that have play groups with other home schooled children, under the supervision of the parents. They take their kids on trips to museums and travel destinations so the kids can learn things that way too. I think it is a good idea.

Home schooling is an excellent idea for those who can do it. Contrary to popular belief, a child’s socialization skills are not irreparably harmed by Home Schooling. Quite frankly, there are many children in school that I DON’T want my child exposed to.

Many studies have shown that most children in general and minority children in particular, aren’t receiving quality educations in today’s schools. Budgets are being slashed and teachers are being laid off. It has been demonstrated that black students learn more when they have black teachers; this is especially true of young black male students in lower elementary and black male teachers. It is also been shown that many teachers (who are mostly white, lower/middle-class females) don’t think that minority students have the intellect to handle rigorous academic instruction. I live in Detroit Michigan; where former Gov. John Engler chose incarceration over education many (20+) years ago, I’m sure it is the same in many other urban cities. The prison industrial complex is the new slavery

In a class of 30-35 students, you are lucky if your child gets 10 minutes of direct interaction a day, do the math. 1-2 hours of individualized instruction at home can far outstrip 7 hours in most, not all, public schools. That is only addressing the 3 R’s, if you strive to teach your child morals and values, in many cases, they will NOT be reinforced in the school.

I believe that homeschooling is a fantastic choice for our kids. We need to take a more active role in educating and molding our kids. Also kids learn how to socialize with others from within not from dealing with others on the outside.

No matter how excellent the Home Schooling is the children are deprived of the one necessary item in their lives. The ability to understand other people who they will come into contact with after they enter the “real world”. They will be disadvantaged and have a difficult time in their adult life.

Don’t think so, they can play with kids in the neighborhood, these schools with all of these racist teachers who clearly do not want to teach black students and the constant fighting that black parents have to put up with regarding racist faculty and classmates. Why bother? I have been known to give h**l racist faculty whenever I saw that they were trying to railroad black children.

Maybe black people should have stayed segregated from whites, actually we were better off when you think about it. We had our own businesses, schools, homes and churches…while I am not racist, I rather be segregated from those that are.
