Lauryn Hill Heads to Court to Face Tax Evasion Charges

Grammy award winning singer Lauryn Hill is headed to a Newark Court to face tax evasion charges.

The IRS charged Hill with tax evasion for failing to file several years of tax returns.

Federal prosecutors said Hill didn’t pay taxes on more than $1.5 million earned in 2005, 2006 and 2007 from recording and film royalties.

Hill’s primary income is from royalties, but she also owns four corporations: Creations Music Inc., Boogie Tours Inc., L.H. Productions 2001 Inc. and Studio 22 Inc., according to court filings.

Hill reportedly said she went underground for family’s safety.

“I did not deliberately abandon my fans, nor did I deliberately abandon any responsibilities, but I did however put my safety, health and freedom and the freedom, safety and health of my family first over all other material concerns!” Hill  said.

Just pay your taxes if you can, don’t risk your freedom.

Artists should keep check of this and not leave it up to business managers.
