Dr. Boyce & Yvette: Is It Acceptable to Torture Prison Inmates?

In this video, Dr. Boyce Watkins and Yvette Carnell discuss the hunger strike of prison inmates going on in Georgia right now.  Since the prisoner’s strike back in 2010, many of the men who led the strike have been kept in solitary confinement.  Many of them have not had their injuries treated, and according to the families, may soon die at the hands of the state.

Dr. Boyce Watkins and Yvette Carnell discuss what’s going on in Georgia, and also talk about the issue of prison inmate torture and why some think it’s acceptable in the United States.

I’m saddened to think that this dialogue could be so esoteric, yet purport to be informed and enlightening. There are some strains of truth historically to your assertions but they are not necessarily systematically and emphatically connected. It makes your protestations seem unlearned because you don’t have your facts straight. That’s why we look so juvenile and unprepared when we get to the table, thereby undermining our own process. It would benefit you to spend time inside the system to see what really goes on day in and day out. It would benefit you to know that reformations that are taking place to address the very issues that you make the case for in Georgia, but at the ‘speed of trust’. The greater issue is, “If we don’t do the crime, we won’t do the time.” The level of violence brought on by gang activity has increased 10 fold in the prison system. If you want answers, ask the right questions, you’ll get them. The last thing we need now is pontificators on the sidelines clouding the discussion. That delays the change sorely needed.

No, inmate deserve torture in prison. I pray daily for the safety of family members. I try to see them often for support and peace of mind. The state, lawyers, businesses and communities make millions off of the penal system. What type of person can honetly go to work daily and participate in social injustice and brutality.I think the employees need diversity training and inmates need vocational and education training. This modern day slavery is totally destroying the existence of Black families. It’s frightening because the system is hardening inmates to the point where they have no emotions so it is easy for them to return to the house of doon.I respect the social media and Dr. Watkins for putting this info out there..Since it’s just us…I will continue to pray for my brothers and sisters in the struggle..more than anything they will turn their lives around in Jesus Name..
