Dr. Boyce Watkins wrote for KultureKritic.com and talked about recent comments by the rapper Lil Wayne on the importance of respecting women. In the middle of a beef between Hot 97 and Nicki Minaj, Wayne said that he felt that women should be respected, putting Nicki at the top of the list. Dr. Watkins cites lyrical content by Wayne that is inconsistent with his comments in public.
Someone needs to help me. I’m sitting here, going in and out of consciousness like the victim of a car accident, not able to believe my eyes and ears after hearing Lil Wayne say that he believes that “women should be respected.” If there is anything that anyone learns from hearing any Lil Wayne song for any small amount of time, it’s that he doesn’t give a f*ck about women, doesn’t have any use for women other than s*x, would shoot a woman in front of her child, and put her in the trunk of his car (I’m not kidding).

In accordance to what I am hearing are words from Lil Wayne’s song, which is disrepectful of women, let me just simply ask the little brother if his song also apply to his momma? And to all black brothers, young and old, famous or not famous, and in regards to BLACK women in particular, because I am one black man who does not give a d**n for ghostly-looking white women (and that means all of them), let me ask the brothers why so many of them don’t seem to want women that look like their own BLACK mothers? And do they hate all black women, including their mommas? Which means that they are some very sick-minded dudes, if this is the case. — Rev. George Brooks
