Comedian and “Moesha” Star Yvette Wilson Dies of Cervical Cancer at the Age of 48
One of the TV aunts that we will never forget has died from cervical cancer. Yvette Wilson, who played on the TV show, “Moesha” was struggling to the very end, fighting both cervical cancer and kidney problems. Just this week on YBW, we mentioned that more and more black women are dying from HPV (HPV is the cause of most cervical cancers), and men are dying from it as well (due to head and neck cancers) .
We ask that everyone go to the doctor regularly to get checkups, make sure your partners get tested for ALL STDS, not just HIV, and also be thoughtful about where you share your body. We don’t know how Yvette got the cancer that took her life, but we know that this is a growing trend in the African American community.

Planned Parenthood is NOT a good place for women of color to go to for ANYTHING!! The very foundation and creation of Planned Parenthood was for the annihaltion of the African-American community. Research it. I, myself, had a terrible experience at one of these PP clinics.

I don’t know if you have noticed that people are dying, earlier, with or without a diagnosis. I mentioned it in my last post but BEWARE there is a Genocide going on in this country. Look around your city and see if they started building Dialysis Buildings, no longer a couple of seats in a lab, but their own buildings because people’s kidneys are failing because the Food Chain is Toxic with GMO’s (thank God California finally get to vote on labeling their foods) Pesticides, herbicides, hormones, and antibiotics.
This is serious, why do you think we live in the wealthiest country in the world yet we are the most obese, the sickest, and the brokest???
Take time to get the knowledge that will save your life and your family.

I have one more comment I need to make. Many of these Articles that we read on Your Black World.com are truly not Articles of well thought out information for the Black Community. I know that the Black Population is hurting in many ways. For example: Father’s missing from the Home to name a few but we as Black People have accomplish so much as a strong race of People. Every time I open up my email all I see are Articles about negative destructive information that in my mind focuses on the negative stereotype of so called News Reporting that we see enough of on television. I watch CNN some days ago and every story was about Black people and it was not pretty to see. It has always been easy to pin point every disease or crime committed on the Black race and how down and out we are as people. I’m tired of pretending I’m not seeing what I clearly see and that is racism on television, magazines, and any negative image they can continue to portray about the Black community. Again we do have problems in our race that need to be addressed but so do White people and every other race! Unfortunately it’s just not reported for the entire world to see which is done on purpose. This Article should have been well written if not for us alone at least for the memory of Ms. Yvette Wilson she deserve more than this non thought out, I really don’t care Article.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww this is soooooooooo sad! I hate hearing about that.She was that cool sassy funny chick next door on moeisha who always had niki’s back and saved her from some crazy situations….she is the kind of girl who you would want to live next door too because she was so cool…..I enjoyed watching her as she brought that zest to the screen..Rest In Peace Darling…

Yvette Wilson: You were such a talented sister and seemed to be a genuine caring human being and you deserved a transition that was easy and hopefully without suffering. I will miss you and we sisters thank you for keeping us laughing with class and dignity. Peaceful journey

To all you beautiful Black women be careful whither the yearly paps and nano. Due to radiation, also every Planned Parenthood in our community should be shut down for Eugenics, which is stilled be practice today,

Ladies, ladies, she said that most cervical cancer stemmed from HPV. This was just to remind us to get checked and stay getting checked. Learn to process what you read and stop dissing the writer. Personally I feel her message is right on time, whether the young contracted that or not. Just get checked!!!!!!

I loved her and watched her on the Parkers, which they were fantastic together. I also got a chance to meet “Andell” in California while she was purchasing a car and we were just looking. She was just as sweet and beautiful as she is on the screen. We will miss you. Another one gone too young!

It is important to understand that one of the causes of cervical cancer is HPV. That is not the only cause. Planned Parenthood may not be free where you live. However, in our community, poor women seeking contraceptives can access services for less than other clinics.

rest in peace, sister. u will be missed indeed. to this day, i still watch “The Parkers” re-runs; just finished watching it at 11:00a.m.CDT when i got the news on my blackberry from “Your Black World” news. and u were a marvelous comical supporting actress that surely and definitely kept me laughing.

Not to diminish anything, but it is irresponsible to list Ms. Wilson as the “star” of “The Parkers”; Countess Vaughn & Mo’Nique have that title. It is also DOUBLY irresponsible to infer that HPV is solely relegated to s****l activity. Geesh!!!

Gone Way Too Soon — RIP Ybette.
I loved the Moesha show and Yvette’s role as the sassy, strong-willed Nightclub owner Andell. I was very saddened by the death of another Moesha star –Lamont Bentley who played the role of Hakeem, he was killed in a car accident about 5 or 6 years ago.
I will also put up some prayers for Brandy, she was very close to Whitney Houston and now she’s lost Yvette 3 months later.

You are absolutely right: the article was very deceptive. Both my mother and sister died from cancer and neither was s*x related. The article used Yvette Wilson’s death to talk about s*x-related cancer instead of talking about the wonderful and beautiful person that Ms. Wilson was. Thank God she is out of her misery. May she RIP.

Cervical Cancer is caused by various factors in regards to Environment, genetic makeup and lifestyle choices. Many women carry the HPV virus most do not get Cervical Cancer. Yes, sexually transmitted infections for example: The HPV virus can be one of the causes for cervical cancer. Yet it is not clear how women develop the disease. We can’t exactly say what caused Yvette Wilson’s cervical cancer but what is important it that we as women take care of our bodies as well as our minds. This disease affects every race. It’s also important that you read all the information you can get your hands on for free on the internet. This way you’re not just reading an Article that was written briefly without much detail. So do your Homework. Knowledge is truly Power for the mind and soul. If you want to learn more about any diseases the Mayo Clinic, Wikipedia and Web MD are great websites that provide overwhelming information as well as other sites that you the reader will benefit from.

I am in pure shock right now. I love Yvette. Her wit, her sass, her wonderful voice. This just breaks my heart. At least her suffering has ended.

This is so sad. I remember reading how sick she was. Man I’m in shock. I jus want to ask that God be with her family, and that they know she is not suffering anymore. RIP

All women remember to get your PAP Smear and Mammogram yearly. This is why it is so important to support planned parenthood free clinics so women can have access to these important tests.

Planned Parenthood woman’s wellness is not free. I agree with Nedrea about Cervical Cancer.
