Justin Combs, son of legendary hip-hop artist and entrepreneur P-Diddy, has been under fire for accepting an athletic scholarship to play football at UCLA.
According to a report by Matthew Ehalt of ESPN, there are some who believe the school should not be offering (or that Combs should not be accepting) the $54,000 of free education and expenses to someone who comes from such a wealthy background.
This has to be a joke. In a world where we look down upon those that ride the coat tails of their wealthy parents such as the Hilton sisters or the Kardashians, we should applaud any youngster that possesses enough gumption to put in the work necessary to make their own way. Justin combs has certainly earned his way onto the team as a 3-star cornerback recruit who maintained a 3.75 GPA at Iona Prep in New Rochelle, New York. He reportedly had offers from Iowa, Virginia and Illinois, but decided to take his talents to the Bruins. For those who don’t know, Iowa and Illinois are two serious football states, they do not offer full scholarships to players who have not truly earned it.

This is a great picture but P.Diddy has inserted himself into the equation by releasing all these pictures with him and Justin. No doubt proud. However, I never take a picture before or after a game with my kid. Why, I did not earn it. If P.Diddy learns to stay out the picture, I think more of us who have a strong reaction to this, might have less to say. However, remember when he capitalized on Biggie’s death with a song? I pray his son is stronger than his father and avoids the chaos of celebrity that Daddy Combs has created (e.g. Brooklyn, Community College incident people died, Tu Pac Shot, Biggie Dead, trial for murder with J-Lo). Puffy was so soaked in bad karma he had to change his name to P. Diddy, Sean Combs, and now UCLA father??? I pray they find peace.

Good for Justin, in regards to his hard work! Truly. Now the fact that UCLA only graduates 59% of their football players might be able to talked about. Or how about the fact there were only 1000 Black undergraduates attend admitted into an institution that has nearly 30,000 undergraduates. Now his father making his money off the blood and pain of Black people, that is another story. However, for Justin, this is a great day. I just wish he would take his talents to a real institution like USC where the graduation rate for football players is 61% or Stanford where it is 83%.

He earned it! Congrats, Justin
@Jah – That was your choice to attend a school you couldn’t afford. Where are your scholarships? No financial Aid? I hope it works out for you. Instead of being “salty”, use that energy to find those funds to complete that degree.

I really am over this idea that because this kid has a parent that can afford his tuition then he shouldn’t take the scholarship. What happened to hard work? He worked hard and is now reaping the benefit of that hard work. If he was a lazy, just gettin’ by on hid daddy’s money, folks would have something to say about that. This is his scholarship, he earned it. The scholarship gives him a fair shot at playing and making the team. Without a scholarship, he’s a walk on. Not that any cares about that, but it really is his daddy’s money and besides, he is not the first celebrity’s kid to earn a scholarship. Lay off.

As a college student, I just don’t believe that any celebrity children or children with rich parents period should take scholarships.
Great! They worked hard, and that is definitely commendable.
People are saying he should be treated as everyone else…the problem with that is, he’s NOT like the average college student. Not everyone has extremely rich parents. There are people who have worked just as hard as him but don’t have the funds to pay for everything.
I feel like he should certainly be honored, but I also feel like Diddy should have thanked the school and told them to give it to someone else who actually NEEDS it.
I’m struggling to find funds to continue my education at Howard University, so to see a boy whose parents could pay for a whole 4 yrs tuition without one dent in their bank acct makes me a tad bit salty.

Work hard for what you want. He did that and he is deserving of it. It shouldn’t matter how much his parents make. If you are holding him to a negative standard, then why not do the same for John Elway’s son???? There should be no double standard. Good to see him do the right thing… He earned it. Congrats Justin Combs
