Tyler Perry admitted that he became heavily dependent on alcohol after his mother died four months ago and that it has been a struggle to kick the habit.
Recently Perry opened up about his pain and alcohol addiction to Essence magazine. He shared with the magazine that he would drink to help ease the pain and that it took a visit from President Barack Obama to realize that he was quickly developing a problem.
“I’m doing a lot better now since I stopped drinking about four months ago when my mother died,” Tyler told the magazine.
“When she got sick in 2009 I started drinking every night because I couldn’t sleep — every night up to a couple of months ago. I never had a problem but I certainly was on way to having one.”
“I’d have me a nice big glass of Hennessy and I would sleep through the night. It was President Obama’s visit to my studio, I don’t know what happened there, but when he came everything became clear.”
“I just kind of came out of a haze. It was like, ‘Wake up, kid. You know life is still going on. I know you miss her, I know you care but wake up. Life is still going on.’”
“I swear the day after he left was the day I just said I am going to sleep without it.”

Well Rev. George Brooks. I don’t believe you are a preacher.Maybe God told you to go Pee and you thought he said preach. Any way I am glad others made comments about your silly comment.Preachers are the highest paid job now without any required educations in most churches. What you saying the President should do is what you should be doing. I bet your congregation is lacking what they need especially your elderly and youth.Have you beenout to feed the hungry not sent your followers but what have you done yourself, outside of waiting for your anniversity where you rake in bags of money from your poor congregation. the President need to put some Laws in actions for these preacher and so call christians robbing the poor for their own self gain. When all else fail PREACH.Get you a bunch of uneducated people and start a church.LEAVE OUR PRESIDENT ALONE. He has done a good job with what he had to work with.

This is just another human attribute of a president how has proven his Christian Character is for real. It’s about time we recognize that he is the president, not God. And we will do well to consider him to the alternative and not the ALMIGHTY!

There are two comments here or three that have nothing to do with the content of this article. Political aspect has NOTHING to do with the article whatsoever. The article is about a man on the brink of self destruction, due to the death of his mother. I know how this feels, especially when it happens suddenly without warning. Loosing your father is one thing, but loosing your mother is devastating and someone of great influence reached out to help Mr. Perry. What is so hard about understanding another human being reaching out to someone else, to help them, before they destroy theirselves??????

For the minister to say what he did about what he feel the president should. I am a woman and my father taught me to work and get my own things. Now if everyone did that we would not have to run around and beg, borrow or steal for our needs. We must not have grey matter between our ears to create. At least that is what my elders told us growing up. We were suppose to use the grey matter.
I don’t need the president to do anything for me. I created my own job and now it is being use as a model by many others. What have we become a race of educated beggers?
Like the Dr said what have we taught our children to do? I am wondering if the Rev. have Saturday School to teach the children in his church to read and spell. Think about what you are saying about yourself. And that is I am limited.

Loosing your mother is the worst thing a person can experience. I understand what he was going through, I just glad that he was able to realize that he had problem and get help with it. I wonder if thats why he wrote Aunt Bam’s Place which dealt with a woman who had a drinking problem.

Every black man and woman in America know how easy they get rejected whenever they apply to get a loan from a bank to start a small business earning their way to financial freedom. I don’t understand why, after their legislation victory through the civil rights movement, and their right to vote , black people in America are so slow to come together in creating more institutions to attend the needs of their community as well as the poor whites and latinos. I mean by that, it’s time for black people to build trade schools and vocational schools for young blacks and poor whitea and latinos to acquire skills like plumbing, electricity, locksmith, small engines repair, mechanics, hydroponic and organic agricultural skills. Those schools need to be black schools. It’s time for the black communities to create black banks to attend with more fairness the financial needs of the black communities as well as for poor whites and latinos. These institutions must be established by blacks for blacks in america to earn the full respect of white people. Then they will realize that we have empowered ourselves to master fully our own destiny. Let’s build our black BANKS NOW!

What does your comment have to do with the content of this article? NOTHING. Stop using this political BS to get your point across on an article that does not address things that only concern selfish people like yourself. This article is not about a freakin bank with your reverse racist self. This article is about embracing people when they loose their parents and people of great influence who reach out to help.

Obama, who I supported in 2008, is all of a sudden becoming the solver of all problems to different individuals that are popping up now that it is election time again. And it all sounds and smells a bit fishy to myself and many others that I talk with. But what about giving us some solutions to the major problems that need serious attention, like stopping ALL of these billion dollar wars, and may be getting us involved in one with Iran if he’s elected again. Because that is what the Jews, who are in total control of his administration, are going to puch for. And why does’s he bring an end to all of the billioos that are being given to countries all around the world, AND give us black folks our reparations out of some of that which they are giving to the folks in other countries. This is what we blacks need to be raising our voices about. — Rev. George Brooks

It’s hard to stop smoking cigarettes but it can be done. You can try nicotine gum, pills or nicotine shots in the arm. It’s a struggle and one must keep trying and get pass the grief of giving up smoking.
I lost my last parent and it took me years to get pass her death. I believe I was depressed about her loss but kept on working, praying and moving forward. I prayed about it because I do not want to take medicine to fill that void. That was in 1988, it took until last year because all my elder mentors are deceased. They could never take my mother’s place but there were there for my support.
God Bless All of them.
