If you were watching the Boston Fireworks Spectacular on CBS on Wednesday night, you probably didn’t know it, but the live show and
concert area were actually halted for about 30 minutes.
The concert was stopped, and the area evacuated, due to threat of storm. CBSBoston.com reported that about 500,000 concertgoers were told to leave the area. The attendees were allowed back to the location after 30 minutes and the fireworks display went on as scheduled.
Viewers at home were never aware of the incident however because the network aired backup rehearsal footage during the time gap.
It was the city’s 39th annual Independence Day celebration held at the city’s Charles River Esplanade. Grammy winner, Jennifer Hudson was the concert’s headliner. She performed “And I Am Telling You” and “Feeling Good.”
The Boston Pops Orchestra had to cut their performance short. The orchestra left the stage just before Hudson could perform for a second time. Once officials received word that the threat of lightening and thunderstorms had passed, the show resumed and Hudson returned to the stage.
The show was hosted by Emmy award-winning actor Michael Chiklis, and aired as a live one-hour special.
