Nomalanga Says We Can All Learn From the Mess Fantasia’s Made

In life, you’re sometimes forced to make lemonade out of lemons, and Nomalanga says there are a multitude of lemons in Fantasia’s life, and if we pay attention,  we too can learn how to make lemonade.

Nomalanga chronicles Fantasia’s missteps and misjudgments, and lays out how those mistakes by Fantasia can be used as teachable moments for black women. Maybe, just maybe, dating a married man isn’t a good relationship choice. Fantasia has gone from one crisis to the next throughout her career, and Nomalanga believes there are lessons in that, as well:

Fantasia Barrino has had the headlines buzzing in the last few days. First it was reported that she was  dumped by Antwaun Cook,  her second “baby daddy”, then it was reported that she had an emotional break down while performing at a concert in Trinidad this past weekend.

A lot can be learned from Fantasia’s negative circumstances which range from dropping out of school, having a baby as a teenager,  dating a married man and then trying to commit suicide because of the backlash from the relationship and then finally having a baby with him. In addition to all the drama from her romantic life, Fantasia was also previously reported to have been in a financial crisis and also had medical problems which threatened to take away her singing voice….

just about all the movie actors and singers had some morality issues. by the way she is not the only “star” who has not completed her education….you have the “KING” Beyonce in all her glory who has not completed her education as well…it doesn’t matter whether she dropped out or was to busy to accomplise this small thing, which happen to be a “big” thing now.

When we write or speak the truth, we are told we are not being supportive or give her a break. When we ignore the situations that plague our community we are still wrong. The truth is fantasia is a mess. Don’t be so naive to think that nobody had reached out to her over the last 10 yrs. I see these angry, sad, depressed children of baby mama/daddy drama everyday in middle school. We have to start making better choices. Also, please stop bringing up all those tired white folk who are doing the same thing as fantasia, THEY DON’T LIVE IN OR AFFECT OUR COMMUNITY.

for 1 thing, she needs to stay out of that d**n church and perhaps give a white man a try. I hear Kevin Federline is still available.

It appears anything re:Fantasia is some how exasperated (appear only by blacks). I earnestly believe it is b/c of Fantasia darker complexion. I notice with Fantasia black media is bent on ghettoizing her and conveying subtle inferences of ignorance. I truly believe this is due to her complexion. Even reading the title to this article, the use of word “mess” to describe her trials. You don’t see the same type of language when referring to lighter skinned bw. (eg. someone mentioned Beyonce not completing HS….I never heard of this mentioned in black media). I agree w/another commenter. Focus on her having the wisdom to complete her education. Commend her on begin committed to helping her family.

True Tim it is only an issue when blacks do it because everybody has an opinion. Everyone is deserving of love she is obviously yearning for it in the wrong places who hasn’t made relationship mistakes. Hopefully she finds her equal.

Erica / Tim are both bone-heads.
Her predicament is due to poor personal decisions -not a black/white thing. Its an issue regardless of color. White celebrities get the same grief for making stupid/bad decisions as blacks. Your statement is ignorant and immature.

I agree this is a problem BUT Tom cruise was married while he dated Katie Holmes, Brad was still married to Jennifer while dating and had kids with Angelina; Kim K is still married but all over the news with Kanye West let’s keep it real.

When can we speak the truth and stopped accepting poor choices? Our community should not make excuses for poor choices. Tell the truth.

I just wish that has black women we could be more supportive, not saying I agree with her dating a married man.Funny thing we are so critical when something happens, but where is the support before hand.she is a young adult, that needs guidance and support. We don’t need to say everything we think out in public either.Reaching out sis. Sister to Sister!

I’m sorry but I don’t think she is the only “black celebrity” or black woman that has had these problems. No I don’t agree with messing with a married or having children by one but d**n give the girl a break. I understand how as black people we continue to pull each other down. How about you reach out to her and ask her if she needs help or assistance. This woman was tore down at day 1 with American Idol because told her she was a young mother she shouldn’t continue. Not agreeing with everything she do but I would sure hope to see her rise over all. Also don’t forget Beyonce never finished high school, Aretha Franklin never finished high school, this didn’t change who they have become now. Why don’t you point out that she went back to school to earn her diploma. Leave that girl alone

I agree with you…we all have made mistakes and still is making mistakes. And if someone said that they haven’t…. is lying. We must remember when we point a finger, there is one that is pointing right back at us. Hopefully Fantasia will learn or have learned from her mistakes. In reality if Fantasia hadn’t made it big….who would have cared what she did and what she didn’t do?
