Sherman Hemsley, known best for his starring role in “The Jeffersons,” is dead at age 74.
The cause of death has not yet been released, but it has been reported that Hemsley died at his home in Texas.
Although Hemsley acted in a variety of roles, he is best known for his role as George Jefferson in “The Jeffersons.” George and “Weezy” portrayed a fun couple who were “movin’ on up” in the world. Their natural chemistry on set kept fans of the show in stitches. Before “The Jeffersons”, Hemseley worked in theatre, and then in “All in the Family.” His most famous post-Jeffersons role was in the series “Amen”.

I just woke to learn that Deacon Frye had passed. I will truly miss him especially the way he treated and loved his daughter, Thelma. I was just watching “Amen” yesterday when he jumped up from a massage and said, “I’m going to save my little girl.” True love that a Black Father has for his little girl. We should all practice such love.

El Paso news outlets are reporting that he was found dead in his home, which makes this even more of a tragedy.
