Former Basketball Star Beaten, Robbed in His Hometown of Chicago
When you’ve got the most money, the nicest car, and the prettiest girls, around you, you become a target. This is especially true in Kill-cago, the city that used to be called Chicago, Illinois. The city is now being recognized as a place of senseless violence, with many of the victims being black and brown people.
A college basketball star found himself on the receiving end of one of these beatings and it was ugly. Let’s hope that the young man is ok, and let’s hope that the violence stops. Adebayo Akinkunle is not the only big time Chicago athlete to be famously robbed. Antoine Walker, the man who used to be engaged to the famous Evelyn Lozada, was also robbed of tens of thousands of dollars in cash a little more than a decade ago. It seems that for some cities, things will never change.
A former high school and basketball star was pistol whipped and robbed, in the middle of the day on Monday, at his home.
According to CBS Chicago:
Adebayo Akinkunle, 37, was robbed of a Range Rover and more than $100,000 in various items – including a closet safe, a wallet, credit cards and cell phones – the robbers struck his condo in the 700 block of South Financial Place, in Printer’s Row, according to a Chicago Tribune account.
The robbery happened around 3 p.m. Monday.
The robbers broke Akinkunle’s nose and caused several other minor abrasions, which were treated at a local hospital.
Although a shell casing was found at Akinkunle’s condo, no one recalls having heard a gunshot. Akinkunle says he did not know the assailants.
