A crazy case in Houston has the community up in arms. A man was allegedly shot while his hands were in the air and he had no weapon. Police are giving their account of what happened, but this doesn’t match what witnesses are saying. To make matters worse, a woman who recorded the scene on her cell phone had her phone taken away by an officer who didn’t want anyone to see what was going on.
The man was hispanic, so language may have been a barrier. Either way, there is an investigation and people are wondering what happened to this man who actually was the person who called the police in the first place.
A man allegedly had his hands in the air when he was fatally shot by Houston police, according to witnesses. Rufino Lara accused by Houston police officers of not complying with their Spanish and English commands and kept walking away while the officer was investigating an assault on Monday. Police also claim that he kept his hands tucked under his shirt.
Officers say that Lara was shot when he turned suddenly and had his hand under his shirt, leading officer J. McGowan to shoot him. That’s the official report. But it’s being disputed by witnesses.
