“The congressman is receiving intensive medical treatment at a residential treatment facility for a mood disorder. He is responding positively to treatment,” according to a statement from the congressman’s office, citing a diagnosis from Jackson’s unnamed physician.
The statement read: “In addition, the rumors about him being treated for a*****l or substance abuse is not true.”
Ever since Rep. Jesse Jackson Jr. went on medical leave, people have been wondering about his ailment, even going so far as to speculate that he is suffering from a drug addiction, a charge his wife has denied.
“Information regarding the Congressman’s treatment is protected by federal law under the privacy provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (“HIPPA”). The name of the attending physician and treatment center will not be disclosed in order to protect his continuing privacy” read the statement.
His staff has confirmed that Congressman Jesse Jackson is in a treatment center outside Chicago.
According to Mental Health America, there are three types of mood disorders: “major depression, cyclothymia (a mild form of bipolar disorder), SAD (seasonal affective disorder) and mania (euphoric, hyperactive, over inflated ego, unrealistic optimism.)”
