Illinois representative Jesse Jackson Jr. is facing some heat from senior U.S. senator d**k Durbin on his leave-of-absence. Last month Jackson took medical leave due to the fact that he was suffering from exhaustion. A month later, Durbin strongly believes that Jackson needs to update people more on his condition.
“As a public official, there comes a point when you have a responsibility to tell the public what’s going on
If there is some medical necessity for him not to say more at this moment then I will defer to that. But he will have to soon make a report on what he’s struggling with,” says Durbin. Durbin and others who take issue with Jackson’s would probably find some reassurance in a statement to them about what his issues are. But Durbin’s claims are not that unfounded. As a representative for the State of Illinois, Jackson does have a duty to the people to disclose information about whether or not he is able to properly represent them.
Jackson’s office is not being very descriptive about what is actually ailing Jackson. The only information that they have given is that Jackson will need a lot of medical treatment to overcome what is listed as “physical and emotional” problems. The little bit of information and the lack of further information on Jackson’s condition does not inspire much confidence. After a month no substantive information about Jackson’s ailments has been revealed. Reverend Jesse Jackson, the father of the exhausted congressman stated to the Sun-Times that his son is overwhelmed. Hopefully sometime soon someone will deem it necessary to let people actually know what is going on.
