Black Woman Eats at Restaurant That Flies Confederate Flag Because She Loves Their BBQ Sauce
Take a moment and ask yourself; what does BBQ sauce mean to me? What would I be willing to do in order to have a little of that savory smoke sauce dribbling down my chin? Would you eat at a restaurant where the owner believes that there is a Biblical rationale for slavery because they have good BBQ sauce? Chances are, you wouldn’t. But then again, your name isn’t Teowonna Clifton. Clifton pulls up a seat at the racist establishment whenever she gets a hankerin’ for some good sauce. Here she is in her own words:
“I know, I know. Black people are not supposed to eat at Maurice’s. But I disobeyed that unwritten law years ago. The best thing about Maurice’s is the amazing sauce. Coming from North Myrtle Beach, my family was accustomed to vinegar-based sauces. Mustard-based sauce was unheard of. When I tried Maurice’s for the first time, I was hooked — and no Confederate flag was going to keep me away.”

There are countless outlets that serve the same style mustard based BBQ sauce so no-one with any sense of pride nor self respect should patronize that unrepentant bigot’s restaurants. And, for the record: I’m an African American South Carolinian and WE don’t partronize Maurice’s establishments nor buy his sauce in stores REDSTATES’ July 3, 2012 post (IT’S SOUTH CAROLINA THEY DON’T KNOW NO BETTER) doen;t stand up to scrutiny!!! Maurice sells his sauce under two names, “Maurice’s Gourmet BBQ Sauce” and “Southern Gold”, the latter a clear attempt to hide it’s origin . . .

This is a prime example of something that Amos Wilson pointed out in his book ” BluePrint for Black Power”. Basically he pointed out that the idea of individualism among black people has run amok.
This lady and many other’s will say ” I have the right to make my own choices in my life “.The only problem they could care less in the long as to how their great choices will affect the rest of us.

My sister-in-law was working on her journalism degree at Univ of South Carolina and had to do a story about this place. When her classmate (white chick) called to set up an interview the restaurant was more that friendly, but when my sister-in-law showed up,who is black, all of that changed They are grade A a$$holes. I can’t believe this chick in the story wants BBQ that bad to eat in that h**l hole. There are BBQ spots all around Columbia.SMH

I just read that the owner IS racist. Black people need to raid the place and close it down,gay people still see it as them having it worse,lol? Is gay the new black now folks. This woman has been harassed all over facebook.You need to harass this place. NOT HER,this is crazy. I bet half of those people love James Brown and R.Kelly a woman beater and a pedo. She REALLY needs to stop going there. Like,now!!

Hey derrick,have you ever bought any Nikes,purchased any rap music,or anything else. The business might not have “no n*****s”.,but they money goes to racist and bigots.You all are so quick to point her out(A BLACK WOMAN),but you don’t check your own @ss. If it is not black owned,then you deserve to be written up too. Maybe she’ll break their beliefs….lol. Anyway,you don’t need to be going in on her like that. Why don’t you talk to these mofos selling crack and heroin to kids and others?SMDH Also,I see people all over the internet calling her a big fat greasy so and so. I know she’s overweight,but she is not some unkept person. Fat people have feelings too,right? Also,you are an example of bigotry. First and foremost, I DON’T WEAR SNEAKERS, BUY RAP MUSIC OR LISTEN to those dumb devil worshipping negro rappers.
I listen to jazz, stay sharp and I don’t patronize no cracker, arab or asian, when they OPENLY claim they are racist. As long as a foreigner respects me, I don’t give a d**n what they think about me behind close doors.
You have negroes, like yourself, who are nothing but a HYPOCRITES (you got the right name). I patronize my people every chance I get, but let’s keep it real, not too many BLACK OWNED businesses NOWHERE nowadays.
I demand my respect from these foreigners when I spend my money in their establishments. If they disrespect me, then I will disrepect them in return. Plain & simple. You have some negroes, who are in business, and they don’t know how to treat their own kind. Therefore, I’ll put them in CHECK too.

How does the writer know the owner has a biblical rational for slavery. Did he interview the owner or is this just his opinion Because of the Confederate flag.
Secondly if the BBQ is as good as she says I would venture to say that she is not to only Black to eat there. They may order carry out and just not tell anybody.
Whats obvious is she has been treated well and respected like any other customer, or else she wouldn’t have been going back for all these years. What more would you want in a restaurant, the food is good and you can relax and enjoy your self. Or at least Teowonna can. Most of you can’t get past the HATE in your hearts.

Listen white boy…when MLK had negroes dying, getting bitten by dogs, hosed down until bones were broken, not to mention being hung from trees and telephone wire, once these caucasoids figured out how much money they were losing, they finally let negroes sit in their restaurants.
If you go to any restaurant you will see a negro in the kitchen or taking out the garbage!

This is silly, probably not even a real story but a commercial for Maurice’s.most of the black people commenting here eat, buy clothes, fake hair, groceries, cars, get their nails done, buy jewelry…. list can go on and on at so called racist establishments every single day. They are just comforted by the fact that a confederate flag isn’t waving in the air..nothing new here…black people will always enrich those who do not like, love or respect them..

I don’t really care…I have never lived in the South but perhaps if I did, I think I would be too afraid to eat at any food establishment that openly states that they are racist against “me” It’s kinda stupid, I definitely would eat at home and make my own sauce. A good cook can tell what ingredients are in a dish..

If these negroes saw a white boy or girl dressed in a klanner robe and hat; they would still patronize them while smiling showing all 32′s.

It is like this….. no black person can sit smugly as if this is isolated with this woman. Every single establishment ( from car dealerships to grocery stores) in this country that is not black own don’t want black people (including you if you are black)… And they let it be known some subtle and some not so subtle. But does that stop black people? No! We still patronized these business.
