The body is actually one interconnected organ where all cells impact one another. That much we know. What we don’t always know is how one part of the body is impacted by another. It’s not always easy to discern the correlation, and scientists haven’t always made it easy since their analysis often compartmentalizes instead of taking a holistic approach.  For instance, now we’re learning that a woman’s fertility is impacted by having her appendix removed:
