Eight Wal-Mart stores across Missouri were evacuated Friday evening after receiving bomb threats, while an additional three stores in Kansas received similar calls.
The messages, which started coming in in around 6:30pm, affected stores in Gladstone, Raytown, Fredricktown, Jefferson City, Nixa, and Ozark. According to Fredricktown police chief Eric Hovis, “It was an automated call and the voice said there’s a bomb in the building. You have two hours to get everybody out this store. This is not a joke.” Local news sources were confirming new threats up to about 10pm. Three locations in Kansas—two in Leavenworth and one in Lawrence—also received threats on Sunday. After several police departments combined resources to conduct searches, no bombs or other devices were found in any of the stores.
