So Sad: Beanie Sigel is the Latest Rapper to go to Prison

Martin Luther King had a lot of dreams back in the day.  One of those dreams might have been the one about rappers making sure they pay their taxes.   If this wasn’t Dr. King’s dream, it certainly is ours.  Beanie Sigel is the latest rapper to go to prison and the latest celeb to get hammered by the IRS for not paying Uncle Sam.  The crazy thing about it is that when the IRS comes to get you, they don’t just want their money back and they don’t just want interest and penalties.  These days, they want your freedom.

Putting a short end to his public beef with millionaire Jay-Z, Beanie Sigel will be out of the game for a couple of years, and we hope that during this time, he will get his life together.  It appears from the judge’s harsh words toward him that he’s going to have no other choice.  This also begs the question:  Are the feds going after black people more than everyone else?  Yvette Carnell thinks so.

You make big money one minute and head to prison the next.  Rapper Beanie Sigel was given two years in federal prison for failing to file his tax returns over a three year period.  The rapper was sentenced for missing out on his filings from 2003 through 2005.

Sigel, whose real name is Dwight Grant, pleaded guilty to the charges, but was still sent to prison.  U.S. District Judge Jan DuBois also gave the rapper a year of supervised release after he is sentenced.  During this time, Grant is expected to pay all taxes and penalties.
