Still quite the behemoth event, the Essence Music Festival saw a tiny drop in its attendance numbers this year. There is no word as to why the numbers dropped, and the decline is especially disturbing in light of the fact that last year, they had fewer days and fewer events than this year. The Essence Music Festival has become a go to hot spot for music in the black community, along with a variety of other sessions that focus on empowerment, education, relationships and more. Time Warner is likely seeing the Essence Festival as the key method for making money on the Essence brand, since magazine revenues are not what they used to be for anyone in the industry.
NaturallyMoi.com tells more:
Even though the party is still jumping the Essence Music Festival saw a decline in the number of people it was able to attract. The four-day festival held in July brought in 413,000 people this year, down from 422,000 last year. This drop is especially significant, considering that last year’s festival lasted for three days instead of four.
This was the 18th year for the festival, held in New Orleans at the Superdome. The festival consists of empowerment seminars, concerts and community events. Organizers also added a fourth day this year to market to the youth for tomorrow.
