Conservative pundit Armstrong Williams isn’t exactly a fan favorite at the Essence Music Festival. But he does make a point that millions of African Americans might agree with. Williams says that the partnership between the Essence Music Festival and Planned Parenthood is one that is filled with the kind of propaganda that shouldn’t be allowed in a setting where black people from all walks of life are coming together to enjoy themselves.
Planned Parenthood does a lot of things that promote health and family planning. But one thing they are known for is giving abortions, lots of them. We also know that the black teen pregnancy rate is sky high and that many of these girls are running to the Planned Parenthood clinic when they get pregnant, aborting children who would otherwise be given a chance to live.
The abortion of black babies is a cause for concern for a lot of Americans, but so is a world where women have no options. The question is whether or not liberal white women should be defining the agenda for African American women, or if aborting our children remains inconsistent with the deep Christian values of the African American woman in America. It’s really hard to tell.
Planned Parenthood is sponsoring is sponsoring the 2012 ESSENCE Music Festival in New Orleans and Armstrong Williams has a few thing to say about it.
Armstrong Williams is known as a proponent of conservative Christian values in America’s public debate. According to townhall.com, Williams is “An entrepreneur and third-generation Republican, taking stands for what’s right on radio and television, in print and cyberspace. ”
Williams describes Essence as claiming to motivate African American women and to speak to their hearts and what their specific concerns are. Says Williams:
