Nomalanga Says that Queen Latifah and Raven Symone Need to Go Ahead and Come Out of the Closet

Nomalanga Mhauli-Moses, the reigning Mrs. Botswana and contributor to Your Black World, has some strong words for Queen Latifah and Raven Symone.  Nomalanga believes that both Latifah and Symone aren’t fooling anybody by pretending to be something that Noma believes they are not.  She says that while everyone has the option of deciding whether to speak honestly about their sexuality, a celebrity’s decision to come out can help to stop the rumor mill and keep people from spreading vicious untruths about them.

This might be the best time for anyone to come out who might be secretly gay.  The tolerance for homosexuality has grown over time, and even the President of the United States made a strong statement in support of gay marriage earlier this year.  Hip hop artist Frank Ocean really tested the waters by admitting that he is in love with a man, which is certainly setting powerful trends in hip hop, which is historically quite homophobic.

Perhaps Nomalanga is right, it might be time for everyone to fess up and be proud of who they are.

You can read more of Nomalanga’s essay at YourBlackBloggers.net:

Queen Latifah has reportedly said that she is “not coming out” and she will not disclose her s****l orientation. Recently, Raven Symone also reportedly stated that she was not willing to disclose her s****l orientation.

First of all, just to be clear, everyone has the right to “come out” or not or to say that they will not discuss their personal life in a public forum. That being said, when a celebrity’s s****l orientation comes into question, the only way to stop the rumor mill from going wild is to publicly state the truth.

I don’t care to hear about their private lives. They are made to entertain via music, moves, etc., not through their private life.

Ms. Moses: your writing tends to be very judgemental even though you sway back and forth between the controversy and slipping in your opinion. Celebrities are under no obligation to model or emulate “proper” or acceptable behaviours for their followers. I pay to be entertained by Latifah or anyone else and that is the extent of our relationship. Regardless of whether or not these women “come out” it would not diminish my respect for them, or their talents. Please find something else to do besides making a name for yourself attacking others. They worked for their fame. You go earn yours.

To add to this nonsense, this Nomalanga chick is nobody here in the US. Every single thing that comes up on her in a search says the exact same thing, Mrs.Botswana, married mother…it’s hard as h**l to even find a picture of her on the internet!!! She’s nobody! The only news out there about her is a letter she wrote about unfair representation at a pageant. Noooobody!!!

This chick is an opportunist to say the least. She won a title on another continent, in a country that most people know nothing about, and here she is trying to use some black Americans desire to support all things black to build a name for herself while attempting to tear down other black women who’ve worked hard to earn their places in life. I officially have no respect for her. She needs to go back where she came from and stay there.

Dr. Maya Angelo, says” It is ok to be honest, but you do not have to tell all of your business”
I, agree, that people, should mind their own business and saying that ,does not label any of us.

Everybody knows that career bachelors and bachelorettes are in the closet gays, especially when it comes to celebrities. If they’ve been a well-known public figure for years and there’s never been any romantic connection to either s*x, we know wassup.

My thing is, why do some people have to demand and “outing”? Celebrities are who they are because of their craft – appreciate them for that and allow them to still be human. Focusing on their sexuality and trying to stir up scandal distracts from what they are really trying to be known for, and that’s unfair.

That being said, for those screaming “come out!”, how much would you appreciate have the details of your private life blasted across every media outlet in the world? Being a celebrity does NOT mean you’re not allowed to have a private life. People can speculate until their brains hemorrhage, but their life is still theirs to live and the gory details are none of our business. The are more than enough celebrity embarrassments to focus on without trying to drag anyone else into it. Latifah and Raven have thus far maintained classy images and I give them much respect for that.

People need to go back to letting what happens in the bedroom, stay in the bedroom and stop trying to uninvited voyeurs in other people’s lives.

Come out of what? The TV set, the movie theater, the cd! These young ladies are famous for their talent not for the s*x partner choice or s****l preference. What they do when they are not doing entertainment that requires my choice to watch for free or pay to watch or listen is not my or your business. Maybe whatever her name is should go in, go inside herself that is and find out why she choose to demand a person sexuality preference when most people had no idea she existed. Unless these ladies ask you to pay for their s****l habits, dates, s****l encounters or anything else that relate to having a partner of any kind, please tend to your own business and leave’em along. They are hard working talented women and they have the right to do whatever they want to do sexually as long as it is legal. So leave’em along!

Some of us like to keep our noses out of other people’s business because we have business of our own to attend to. I do not care how anyone else sleeps; I admire those women for their talent.

To be honest about the matter both of these ladies look good to me. I ain’t into plus side women, but the Queen looks good and Raven looks good with her weight lost! IT TAKES ALL KIND TO MAKE THE WORLD GO AROUND! If it don’t concern you, than STAY OUT OF THEIR BIZ.

START OBSERVING THESE crackers, who are trying to put you back in chains!

LET THEM BE! IT’S THEIR LIFE! Ain’t we got bigger fish to catch other than worrying about if two women want to LAP dance with each other?

    I’M OUT!
