The First Lady Gives Parenting Advice: Is She Qualified?

First Lady Michelle Obama seems to be all things to all people these days. Now, she is giving out parenting advice to those who are seeking solutions for their kids. We love Michelle and find Sasha and Malia to be amazing children to see from a distance, but there is always the question of what qualifies her to tell other women how to raise their kids.
In no way are we claiming that Michelle doesn’t have a right to share lessons and her opinion. The problem is that her kids are not yet finished products, and it’s hard to tell if you’re doing a good job by the way your kids behave when they are 12 or 13 years old. Years from now, when Sasha and Malia are making career decisions, maintaining a marriage and raising kids of their own, we’ll then know if Michelle’s advice has actually worked.
What the heck, we love her too, so why not let her speak her piece. NaturallyMoi.com tells more:
The gleaming First Lady sat down with the writers of Parenting magazine for the August 2012 issue to discuss how she and President Barack Obama raise their beautiful daughters Sasha, 11, and Malia, 14. Here’s what she said regarding health and cooking: “I think it’s the simple things that hold true regardless of income or location: eliminating sugary drinks, cooking a little bit more. It’s hard to do. I struggled with it as a working mom myself. But thinking about it once or twice a week even, sitting around a table, getting to know our kids more, is a good thing.”

Dr. Boyce Watkins,
Considering the First Lady has experience at BEING a mother and a “Parent”, I would say she’s as qualified to give parenting advice as you are at producing and presenting NON financial related commentaries with degrees in Finance, Economics, Business Management and Mathematical Statistics.
You feel me bro? :-0

Derrick, I have been asking this question since the very first time I clapped eyes on these Newsletters!! I am becoming so embarrassed by them that I really don’t think I can continue reading all the downright negative stuff being written about President Obama or his wife. I live in the UK, and have been scrutinising these so-called news for a while, but I am at a loss to understand what is going on with this man ‘Dr Boyce Watkins’- he’s got some serious problem with the President! Can someone please try and explain why I’m getting this picture, or, am I over-reacting?? Please tell me I am!!!

I agree completely with her advice. She hasn’t finished raising her kids yet, but her parents did a great job with her and her brother in the crime infested southside of chicago she grew up in.
I do wish that all parents, especially working parents, would sit down to dinner each day with their kids. That way you can keep up with what went right and wrong with their day. When people break bread together it is a bonding ritual.
