The next time your teenage daughter wants to watch an episode of “Basketball Wives,” tell her about the girl in this story. A 15-year old girl in London is being accused of attacking another girl with a steel afro pick and stabbing her in the head. The girl went into a coma and died a few months later. This is an example of bullying of the worst kind and is a cautionary tale for those who think that fighting between girls is cute and should be ignored.
It also reminds us of the dangers of having televised shows like “Basketball Wives,” which encourage young girls to fight rather than to settle their differences with conversation and dispute resolution. We are sure that the girl is going to regret what happened for the rest of her life, but it might be too late if she gets life in prison. Teach your kids how to talk it out and make violence as last resort or no resort at all, except possibly in cases of self-defense. From the story the prosecutors are telling, this situation could have been easily avoided by talking.

A 15-year old girl is on trial for killing her enemy with a steel afro comb. The girl allegedly attacked the other young lady because she was spreading gossip about her, according to police. Authorities are saying that the girl stabbed the comb into the skull of Julie Sheriff, a 16-year old girl who happened to be the daughter of a sheriff.
The girls lived in London, and Julie was in a coma for 19 weeks. She never regained consciousness and eventually died in the hospital. The girl’s family moved to London from Sierra Leone, West Africa, where her father was a police officer.
“What lay behind this antagonism, the crown cannot say with any certainty,” said prosecutor Jonathan Turner.

Unfortunately, conversation and conflict resolution doesn’t exist in the world of many young people of today and they would rather use weapons such as: guns, knives, ice picks, box cutters, etc. to convey their messages of frustration, retaliation, anger, hate, and whatever ill feelings they may be feeling rather than discussing them in a calm and mature manner to resolve the problem sensibly and logically.I can’t believe this young lady actually used a comb to cause serious bodily harm which resulted in death.
