Even though Nia Long is beautiful and famous, and could, conceivably, have any man she wants, she’s still a “baby mama”. Some people are taken aback by this, and believe that Long is further diminishing the role of black husbands and fathers in American society. There is the theory that welfare was the beginning of the end, and that it rendered black men irrelevant in American households. But Nomalanga takes a different view, and believes that Long should be respected, even though she is a “baby mama”:
Nia Long is on the August cover of Essence magazine with a title that reads “Nia Long- Single, Satisfied & Raising Her Boys”. Nia Long, who shares that she is in a relationship with the father of her second son, Ime Udoka, clarifies that by “single”, she means that she is not married.
The actor and dancer has been quoted in a number of online publications as saying that marriage is not a priority for her. Of course this raised a few eye brows, especially those of her more conservative fans but she further explained that she “had never seen marriage work” which helps explain her seemingly indifferent attitude towards it.
The reason why I can respect Long boils down to one important thing she said: “I worked hard to have the career I wanted, but I’ve also been deliberate about my personal life. None of this is a mistake.”

African women were brought to America and the main purpose was to be breeders.
African American women had to endure a lot, working the farms, kitchens, being raped by the slavemasters and then watching their whole family torn apart. Watching their children being sold to another slavemaster for farmwork and whatever else.
Until that piece of history can be reversed to what it should have been, families staying together as a good and continuing example, then not anyone can criticise anyone on how they choose to raise their children.
You have to ask her first why she chooses this method. Maybe she sees something in the fathers of her children that does not sit right with her.
The children are innocent and she is not on welfare.

It is tough enough to raise a boy into a man with the father in the house. With all of the outside influences and distractions, I believe that there is a point that a single mother will not be able to cope and do an effective job. I saw it with my own son. Being Momma’s baby has to be replaced with the cold hard facts that the baby is growing into a young man and finally a grown man. I had to put my son against the wall at the age of 13 due to him “beginning to smell himself” and talking back to his Mother. That was the perfect opportunity for a father to step in and not only clear a son’s head on how to talk to his mother, but also clarify how he should treat and talk to the opposite s*x. Yes, many single women, including MS Long, may attempt to marginalize the need for fathers, but just look around at the many Black single mothers and the continuing rise of the numbers of our young Black males in incarceration. The answers to me are clear. There is a point that Moms have to step back and let a capable father do the necessary heavy lifting. Unfortunately, these women have chosen to go it alone. The absence of a father will be a determent to our race.

I agree with you to a certain degree, but a woman CANNOT RAISE TWO SONS by herself! A real MAN needs to be around his children at all times, not just every other weekend!
These negro celebrities having these babies out of wedlock, but talk about the birth rate of young Black teenage pregnacy; they are no role models.
These young girls are looking up to these ‘stars’ and will carbon copy what they do because they have NO ROLE MODELS to look up to, except for the dope boy, the stripper, or the Atlanta house ho’s.
THEIR FATHER AND MOTHER IS THE TELL-A-LIE-VISION, THE CELL PHONE, THE VIDEOS, AND THE VIDEO HO’S.
Marriage is not for everybody, but for her to raise two boys without the presence of the father in the home…is not a good move. To each his/her own, but children need BOTH PARENTS, so they can have stability and family values when they become wiser and older.
“baby momma” are code words for young Black mothers and their relationships with the fathers of their children. This is another reference to the inner city and DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY PROPOGANDA.
That is no pretty picture without the DAD/FATHER!!!
