Not every church is corrupt and not every pastor steals. In fact, most pastors don’t steal, which is why they are pastors in the first place. But this couple’s situation is baffling to all of us, because we don’t know what happened.
A married couple of pastors is accused of stealing a bunch of money from their old church before vacating, and they are both at risk of growing old in prison. The wife has a criminal record already, which surely doesn’t look good to the judge and potential jurors. This is also the same city where a group of prostitutes went on the news and talked about how ministers were their best clients. It kind of gives credence to the book, “The Black Church: Where Women Pray and Men Prey,” by Deborrah Cooper.
But you can’t blame this one on the male pastors, since it looks like the pastor’s wife may have been working with her husband. This crime appears to have possibly been a family affair. But we’ll wait to see the evidence before speculating too much, let’s just hope that the truth comes out sometime.
BlackBlueDog.com tells more:
It seems that churches are not out of reach when it comes to disappearing money. Two pastors, in Houston, Texas, have been released from jail after being charged wit the theft of over $430,000 from a Houston church.
According to court records, 58 year old Charles Gilford and his 53 year old wife were let out from jail after a judge reduced their bond from $800,000 to $15,000 each.
Last week, the Gilfords were indicted and charged with stealing over $200,000 and misapplication of fiduciary property. The husband and wife duo appeared in court on Monday.
