RIP: Obama Campaign Aide Collapses and Dies

One can only imagine how bright his future might have been. A young and promising campaign aide for President Barack Obama died suddenly this week after falling ill. There is no word on how Alex Okrent died, but we do know that he was an intense Obama loyalist. Okrent worked with Barack as far back as 2004 when he was just 20 years old. Through the years, he’d been promoted throughout the Obama campaign team, and was set for a bright future in politics. That future got just a little bit dimmer with his recent passing.

President Barack Obama took some time today to call the family of Alex Okrent, one of his campaign aides who died after collapsing suddenly at campaign headquarters. Okrent’s death was a surprise, and the president offered his most sincere condolences to the aide’s family in Chicago.
President Obama was in Virginia on a campaign stop when Okrent fell ill. Okrent worked in the president’s media department. He was a deputy field director in Cleveland during the president’s 2008 campaign, and also worked on President Obama’s 2004 Senate campaign.
