Thursday was the last day for “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts. Roberts is taking an extended medical leave to receive treatment for her bone marrow disorder MDS. The show devoted its second hour to her, and also announced guest appearances who will be filling in for Roberts during her absence.
Among the news legends they announced that Diane Sawyer, Amy Robach, Elisabeth Vargas, Katie Couric and Barbara Walters are all on board to fill in. Aside from news legends, Kelly Ripa, Rob Lowe, and Chris Rock are slated to fill in also. The most anticipated guest host is Oprah Winfrey, who will bring in heavy morning-show competition. Her best friend, Gayle King, is one of the hosts of GMA’s rival show “CBS This Morning.”
The length of time that Robins will be gone is unknown. What is known is that her treatment will take at least several months. Robins was initially scheduled to leave the show on Friday; however, she left to visit her 88-year-old ailing mother in Mississippi. Senior Vice President of ABC News, Jeffrey W. Schneider, confirmed that Robins’ mother, Lucimarian Roberts, died last night.
