GOP Senate Candidate Believes Pregnancy Via Rape Is ‘Similar’ To Having A Baby Out-Of-Wedlock

Knocked Up, Tom Smith, Rape, Republican Senate, Penssylvania, Out of Wedlock

Republican Senate Candidate in Pennsylvania Compares Getting Pregnant By Being Raped Is Similar To Have A Child Out Of Wedlock

An Associated Press reporter asked Republican Senate  of Pennsylvania candidate, Tom Smith, how he could tell a rape victim to keep her rapist’s baby against her will. The senate hopeful replied, “ I lived something similar to that with my own family. She chose life, and I commend her for that. She knew my views. But, fortunately for me, I didn’t have to.. she chose they [sic] way I thought. No don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t rape.” It was later revealed that the “she” Smith is referring to is his daughter.

The reporter responded by asking, “Similar how?” In which the senate hopeful replied, “Uh, having a baby out of wedlock.” The reporter asked, “That’s similar to rape?” Smith then responded, “No, no, no, but… put yourself in a father’s situation, yes. It is similar. But, back to the original, I’m pro-life, period.”

The senate hopeful has spoken to additional reporters upon receiving backlash for comparing his daughter’s out of wedlock childbirth to the childbirths of rape victims. “No, I did not say that. I didn’t even come close to saying it. I said I went through a situation. It’s very, very difficult. Do I condone rape? Absolutely not. Do I propose life? Yes I do.”
