Chevron Fined 19 Billion for Contaminating the Land of Native People in the Amazon

Oil giant, Chevron has been ordered to pay more than $19 billion in fines for alleged mishandling in of oils spilled in the Amazon. Even a company of this size has a difficult time absorbing such a large cost, and the company is fighting like crazy to avoid it.

In a statement posted on Chevron’s website however, the company disputes the ruling.

“The Ecuador judgment is a product of bribery, fraud, and it is illegitimate,” the statement said. “Chevron does not believe that the Ecuador judgment is enforceable in any court that observes the rule of law.”
