Court Rules State of Texas Can Deny Planned Parenthood Funds

Texas officials intend to deny Planned Parenthood funds based on a ruling, by a federal court, that says that they can ban clinics that perform abortions from receiving funds from a health program. The health program is intended for women with low incomes.

Until Tuesday, there was a temporary injunction that allowed Planned Parenthood to receive the funding while awaiting trial in October. Planned Parenthood challenged the law that said that clinics that perform abortions could not receive the funding for low income women. On Tuesday, the injunction was reversed by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans, cutting off Planned Parenthood’s funding.
