Just Reel Film: “WIGS” Celebrates The Lives Of Women Through Their Eyes (Web Series)

“WIGS: Christine”

by Dorian Chandler, Your Black World

The web continues to replace the coveted role that television once had. By creating original video content that resonates with diverse audiences it’s become the new place to be discovered. The popular web series “WIGS” is a perfect example of some of the best that the web has to offer. Using female perspectives as their niche, the series is a blend of original scripted series, short films and documentaries.

The series launched in May 2012 by filmmakers John Avnet and Rodrigo Garcia. Their goal was to create an online series featuring world-class talent with high production value and great story lines. I like the fact that two men decided to create a series that revolves around the lives of women. Every “WIGS” series is titled with a woman’s first name, like in this episode called ‘Christine.’

The ‘Christine’ series is produced by Effie Brown and features “Ugly Betty” star America Ferrera as she embarks on a fun-filled and crazy night of speed dating. In this episode, Christine is introduced to a pretty gorgeous speed dating candidate, Stephan, played by Gary Dourdan. Stephan’s ability to open up to Christine about his personal life makes for some undeniable chemistry between the two. Check out the episode to see if Christine and Stephan go beyond just speed dating.
