Chris Lighty’s Death Reopens Black Suicide and Stigma Conversation

When music industry executive and manager to the stars, Chris Lighty, took his own life this past week, it reopened the door to a conversation about black suicide.

According to BlackDoctor.org, even though many people in the African-American community think that Black people do not kill themselves on purpose and that suicide is for “white people” or a “punk move”, clinical research tells a different story.

African Americans seem to have an unspoken agreement to be quiet about mental health, sexuality, infidelity in marriage, homosexuality and homophobia,  neglect and abuse, and other  health issues.
