Ice-T is a hip-hop legend who began his career as a rapper in the 1980′s. His debut album Rhyme Pays was the first hip-hop album to carry an explicit content sticker. As one of the pioneers of the musical genre he’s understood the pulse and influence of hip-hop better than most. That level of understanding led Ice-T to direct his first film, Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap.
Making its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival and its theatrical release this past summer, Something From Nothing: The Art Of Rap explores the history, evolution and influence of hip-hop throughout the years. Ice-T is a prominent figure in the film as he conducts candid interviews with rap heavyweights like Nas, KRS One, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Chuck D and Kanye West to name a few.
If you missed the films theatrical releases you can now buy the documentary on DVD or as a digital download on Itunes this week. Both will include bonus features not seen in the theaters. Check out these two outtake interviews where Ice-T finds out why Dr. Dre has some of the cleanest mixed records in hip-hop and how Q-Tip learned how to rap.
