Two Married Criminals Shoot Police Deputy

A husband and wife duo is wanted by the police for shooting a police deputy and for carjacking. They allegedly shot the sheriff’s deputy of L.A. County early on Sunday morning. The attack took place on Durfee Avenue in South El Monte outside of a convenience store.

According to the authorities the Temple Station deputy ran the license plate numbers of a white Ford Explorer. The Explorer, which had been involved in a robbery earlier that week, appeared in the system leading the deputy to call for police backup. He then confronted the couple in the store, leading to a gun battle between the couple and the officer. According to Captain Mike Parker the male suspect (believed to be 24-year-old Darnell Washington) emerged from the driver’s side of the car, toting a shotgun. It was in the following altercations that a deputy was shot.
