Texas Gov. Rick Perry Blames Satan For Separation of Church and State

People who are not idiots know that the separation of church and state, an intentional distancing of organized religion and the government, originated with Thomas Jefferson. In an 1802 letter, Jefferson discussed separation of church and state as it related to the First Amendment of the Constitution. But Texas Gov. Rick Perry is short on history ….and intellect, and apparently believes that Satan is responsible for the separation of church and state in America.

In a conference call with fellow evangelicals earlier this week, Gov. Perry said “Satan runs across the world with his doubt and with his untruths and what have you and one of the untruths out there that is driven is that people of faith should not be involved in the public arena.”

I agree with Gov. Perry with a twist. Satan is responsible for our separation from God in the private arena which carries over to the public. Whatever pathology you can name that plagues our communities; ground zero is home or the lack thereof. We should be honest enough with ourselves to admit that Satanic influences have taken hold in our communities instead of running around like children, laughing at the one who has the right answer, when we seem not to know it ourselves.
