An executive with Google has been arrested in Brazil for forgetting that American freedoms are not quite the same when you go to other countries. According to the Associated Press, Fabio Jose Silva Coelho, an executive with Google, is set to be arrested for not removing a video that is critical of a local mayoral candidate. There are pre-election laws in South America which state that such videos are illegal.
Google said that it rejected the decision by Judge Flavio Peren of Mato Grosso do Sul state, and also ordered a 24-hour, state-wide suspension of both Google and YouTube. The executive was detained and then released and police say that they have not received an order to arrest him.
