Christian rap has always been looked at as an anomaly. OK, you’re Christian, but you rap?? When most think about rap, imagery of drugs, cars, girls wearing clothes that are barely there .. the exact opposite of what one would visualize when you think of the church or the Kingdom. Christian rap .. the words alone seem to be a contradiction !! Don’t judge quickly because there is a new breed of rapper that is souled out on Jesus, speak the truth and gospel in their rhymes, and have bars and beats that can hold their own next to ANYONE in the secular world.
Houston born Christian rapper Lecrae’s sixth album, Gravity, is beginning to show that not only can the MUSIC stand on its own next to its secular brother, but now has the record sales to make it valid to the marketplace.
