A Texas jury awarded $2 million to a record executive who owned the rights to the smash old-school hip hop hit “Whoomp There It Is.” The popular song was performed by Atlanta-based rap duo “Tag Team.” The group became a highly favored one-hit wonder after the single went quadruple platinum.
Alvertis Isbell, 72, (also known as Al Bell) is a successful record producer who sued DM Records for rights to the song. Isbell was the head of Bellmark Records in the 1990s when the label filed for bankruptcy. Much of Bellmark’s assets were sold to DM Records during the company’s collapse and Isbell has been fighting for over a decade for rights to his musical compositions.

Wow! This has nothing to do with Tag Team? They made the song a hit. Oh well; Whoomp There It Is.
