Just Reel Film: “In(HER)View: A Conversation with Black Women” (Web Series)

Charla Harlow: “In(Her)View: A Conversation with Black Women”

by Dorian Chandler, Your Black World

“In(HER)View: A Conversation with Black Women” looks to tell the unique stories of women of color. The eight-part bi-weekly documentary styled web series speaks to five black women and asks them eight similar questions. The questions revolve around their experiences, challenges, passions and what they love most about being a black woman.

Charla Harlow is the series creator, director, producer and editor. In an effort to find an independent space for her work she created a website called Harlow Project. The site is described as a multimedia platform dedicated to producing projects that create a community of consciousness. Harlow Project aims to create a space where people can talk genuinely and truthfully.

In part one of the series, the question why do you love being a black woman is raised. We get to hear some pretty interesting answers from the ladies: Ryann, Jasu, Kimberley, Peta-Gaye and Genesis. Their responses are raw and made me think of my own answers to the question. After watching this episode, see if you can come up with your own responses to why you love being a black woman?
