Americans are fat, too fat. It costs the nation hundreds of billions of dollars to care for people health ailments related to obesity and its even a national security issue. The military has a tough time finding recruits because of the number of obese teens, and the government is getting sick of it. It looks like New York City is stepping up to the plate on the matter and banning sugary drinks from public consumption. Maybe this is a good first step, or maybe its an infringement on our rights. No matter what it means, you can’t buy that 20 ounce soda anymore.
On Thursday the New York City Health Department became the first in the nation to ban the sale of sugared beverages larger than 16 oz. at restaurants, mobile food carts, sports arenas and movie theaters.
